    Quick question for you all:

Should my '82 XJ650RJ SECA have running (parking) lights? One of my pals noticed it didn't, and that if they were factory equipped, I'd probably fail my safety inspection.

    Thanks in advance!

Although the wiring diagrams show a parking circuit, the electrical section of the Haynes manual seems to say "UK Only."

My '82 SECA 750 has only, on, off, and lock positions for the ignition switch; no park, and no mode that I can find that illuminates the tail light without the key in the ignition.

I think you have to push down slightly on the key/switch unit while rotating the key CCW to reach the "park" position..........the park position is one postion further CCW from "lock", and the only difference between "park" and "lock" is that the tailight and license plate lights come on in the "park" position (thus the park position locks the steering, turns on the tail and license plate lights, and the key can be removed).

My '82 XJ650RJC has a parking light position on the ignition switch. Like Chacal said, it simply turns on the taillight. Can't imagine you'd fail a safety for that not working though :?

    Cheers,
    Lucky

Hmm, I think he was referring to the turn signals being lit, solid, all the time, like in a car. then they flash when you turn on the signal.

Well, look at that... mine does that as well. Lights up the tail light, license plate light, and instrument lights. Cool. I was trying to read the lettering on the ignition switch last night to see if there was a park position, but the little metal ring is pretty well worn smooth.

I guess the UK Only part is the little parking light bulb in the headlight, then.

    Cheers,
    Paul
