I Know nothing about bikes and today I got my learners and then went a bought a 1983 maxim 750... for $750 that's a dollar a cc.

The Plan is to Rat custom the shit out of it...

She doesn't idle without encouragement.... gonna have to fix that but for 700 she'll turn into a nice RAT....

I'm gonna need a repair manual and well should try and get an owners manual too..... also there is sapossed to be some vacuum tube on the peticock? and she ain't there.... could that be why she doesn't idle? aparently if the ajustment screw is tightened up she idles with way too manny revs....

I don't gonna figure this shit out gotta get some tools tomorrow and start hacking....

    Greetings and welcome Scholz,
You are most likely correct about the missing vacuum line on the fuel petcock causing your idle issues. You should have a line running from the back of the petcock to the intake nipple on #3, just in front of the carb.
For a whopping $10, you too can own the factory manual and heaps of other good info, just look up XJCD on the For Sale forum. Takes a while to get it, but is it ever worth the look.
Otherwise, shoot Chacal a line and he'll hook you up pronto for a good price.

X2 on everything Robert said. Chacal is "THE MAN" for parts and is less $$ than a dealer if they can even get the parts. Chacal has, so far, been able to get me the parts I need that the the local stealership says are unavailable. If he hasn't got the part, he has steered me in a direction for a suitable sub. May need a bit of 'modification', but he outlines that as well and everything has been a go from him.

I have a stroy about Chacal I need to post soon about how far and above the man will go. I dare say, I consider him a friend. Never met the man either.

He will not let you down.

Oh, and far as you poll, I, personnally like the hardtail bobbers have seen on here. but, it is your bike. You do what ever you want to it. And enjoy!!
