Removing seat off vstar 1100 custom

Just bought a VStar 1100 Custom to complement my XS400L

Don't have the manual - will fall on Haynes and Clymer until I can find the OEM manual.

In the meantime, I'd like to take the seat off and I can't figure how it's held in place! I thought it would be fairly obvious.

Read some post elsewhere saying to remove a 10mm bolt behind the back seat - there is none. There is a screw on the back fender but feeling under the fender says it holds nothing.

Also read that there were two bolts under the main seat towards the back - not sure about that. I can see a bolt under the seat towards the back but it seems an awkward way to remove the seat. Didn't want to start unscrewing a bolt I couldn't put back if it's not what I should unscrew to get the seat off.

I happen to have a '01 model 1100.
My front seat is held in the front of it by a tongue-in-groove arrangement, and the rear of the front is not held by anything- - the seat just lifts off.
I don't even see any matching bolt holes, or empty threaded fastener holes.
The rear seat is held on by a single acorn nut at the rear, at the top of the rear fender behind the seat.

 

I pulled on the drivrer's seat and mine is not coming off - unless I have to pull hard... I didn't dare pull to hard... yet ;-)

How does your seat stay on if nothing fastens it to the frame???

 

There is a single 10mm nut or bolt on the back of the rear seat. (It will be a screw if the recall has not been done and a nut if it has been done.) Once that is removed the rear seat will slide off. The front seat is attached at the back of it on each side by a allen head bolt.

Timetoride, if your front seat is not attached at the rear by anything you have some missing screws. I owned an 1100 classic and have worked on several 1100 customs and they all are the same arrangement.

There is a screw in the fender - put my hand under the fender to feel it and it seemed to hold nothing. Figured it was there to attach some option to the fender I didn't have on the bike.

This screw is not near the back seat - it's off by several inches. 3 or 4 maybe - I would have to check the distance. But it far enough to not seem related.

Been looking up the subject on the internet - my guess is the recall wasn't applied to my bike. I'll call a dealer tomorrow first thing.

It hasn't been a problem, but I guess it should be bolted down to keep someone from easily taking it.
