Hi all, new to the forum, but not to XJ's. I like to find basket cases and rebuild them. The current project is a 750, and I have a few wiring questions. I plan to get the XJCD but that will take some time so here goes:

I have reconnected the wiring and have a couple of leftovers at the back. One is a two wire female plug connector, one green wire and one black wire. Next is a single white wire with red stripe, male end of a bullet type connector. Last, the bike was missing the rear brake switch when I got it, so I bought a new one. It has two wires, one black and one black with white stripe, both male bullet connectors, can't see where they are supposed to connect. I would appreciate any help anyone could offer.

    Thanks.

Dark Green and Black should be the right rear turn signal.

R/W is switched ignition 12V. It goes to lots of things. If someone's removed some of your safety parts, like the sidestand relay, you might have leftover R/W wires.

Not sure where, physically, the brake switch plugs in, though I would expect somewhere near the battery. How long are the wires from it?

Concur with SQL on all points.
Depending upon the location of the white/red, you could be looking at the battery level sensor. Hard to say without knowing the general location.

Thanks for the replies. The signal wires are all accounted for. The green and black wires in question are in the female side of one of those two piece white plastic connectors as opposed to the single bullet type you would find on the signals.
The W/R is directly above the battery box and reaches just past the back side of the box. I did not disconnect this one, but assumed it was hot since the PO had wrappped the exposed end with electrical tape. I believe all the safety components are still intact, with the exception of the new brake light switch.
The wires on the new brake light switch are only about 3" long. I'm wondering if I am missing a connector from the green/black wires to the new switch.

Hey Paul you corrected me on this one remember. Not R/W but W/R for some reason the brain wants to go R first LOL. W/R is battery sensor. W/R==Battery sensor/ignition switch in/ignition switch out/ cluster guage.

This is on a 82 XJ750seca not sure if 83 maxim 750 is the same.

    You're right. Good call.

Hayne's say no on the battery sensor for an '83 Maxim, though. I wonder if they just left the extra wire in the harness but didn't use it there... Maybe this harness was replaced at some point?

OK the green and black wires with the white connector belong to the fuel level sensor, so that leaves the W/R wire and the brake switch connection.

Followup - For anyone searching for this later, the white wire with red stripe is for the battery level sensor.
