I'm gonna guess her husband told her something along the lines of "Hey! If you let me get a new bike, I'm SURE we could get at least $2500 for the old one!"

...not that I've ever done anything like that, of course.

Believe it or not they go for that here in Central Texas. I bought WyldMax for $1K just a couple weeks ago. After cleaning it up and getting it in shape the way I like it, I've already had a guy offer me $2,800 for it. Bikes are a premium in Texas because of the distances and the price of gas. Rebel 250's here, especially the classic style ones go for $18-2500 all day. Now I am talking abut clean examples with low miles not beaters.

Well now don't be too critical of the seller...I'm always looking for that "special" individual who will give me $3000.00 for my Maxim-X.

    I'm still looking.....<grin>.

Part of the reason also is this is Biker HEAVY country. My shop sits right next to a busy old Texas interstate, and I see hundreds of bikes pass every day. Course the majority of riders are R.U.B.s riding Harley's, but among hardcore bike enthusiasts, there's a great affinity for the older bikes and folks are more willing to pay premium prices for good examples.

That would fetch $2500 here as well especially right now with gas over $1 per litter (over $4 per gallon) the manager at the local used and salvage dealer just told me to list my 650 max for that much if I want to sell it.

When I bought my '85 Maxim X a couple weeks ago I told my wife that I was buying it to fix up and sell. Now that it is running nicely and looking pretty good she wants know when I'm going to sell it. I told her I'd put it on the driveway with a "For Sale" sign on it for $2500. I thought I would be safe, but now I see them going for that. Maybe I'd better raise my price. :)

It only has 8300 miles on it and only two previous owners.

She doesn't understand why I need a $20,000 Harley AND an old Yamaha.

I've got one, wish I had what he told me in his post though. 1984, yes, 84 xj700 (he insisted it was an 84 that the title told him so) with drag bars on it, a maxim x rear wheel....He wanted 2500 for it, and his reasoning?? The book on it is 3500. I promptly told him that they didn't make an 84 xj700 (air cooled) and his price was a bit steep. He got reallllly pissed when I showed him kbb on a mint 85 xj700 was 1500. Friggin hilarious!
