Haha! :D :D :D you and me are thinking the same thing! Ive already purchased a rear swing arm, tire and wheel, rear brake system, seat all from an R1 crotchrocket, Im thinking of running my intakes like you mentioned simular to a V-max. Tha spendy part are the front forks, not sure if I'll go that route. all these parts I got on eBay. Id like to try and keep this build under $1500 including the bike.

Not sure if your just going to replace your rear tire or rear end completely, your limited on the size of your tire, and you cant do anything as far as I know with your swing arm if you shaft driven. you don't have your bike in your profile, mine is a 550 chain driven and I have to build a jackshaft for the offset sprockets.

You can make the stacks out of pvc pieces and easily do 2 into 1. I did 4 into one.

Thats looks great, thanx for sharing that, I think I'll do that at the back of the carbs but go 4 into 2, come out both sides and and later mold some fiberglass scoops.

Ive been running it for a while now. Ive been reading the plugs every few trips around town and they are tan colored and it runs great. I havent had to re-jet. Heres the original article. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=10891.html

    A thought.... if using a 4 into 2 idea....
    A pod filter on each side... the middle 2 loop a u pipe between #2 & #3
Tr a few different lengths, to try to duplicate the volume of the airbox.
    Theoretically sound????

I'm In the process of cutting measuring, fitting remeasuring and re cutting and all that jazz to make this work, my plan is to have two scoops to come up the sides of the gas tank like a V-max. Its all a trial and error extravaganza at this point. Might look cool, might look like s%!t but we,ll see. I can always put the stock air box back in.

That is a really sweet solution for an intake manifold, nice job.

I would do stainless also but the PVC is a great idea to get the air intake and configuration worked out.

Sounds like a plan! I have recently acquired an XJ550 that already had those pod filters on. I bought an original airbox as it runs like s**t at low revs and have tried getting the airbox in - with a great deal of difficulty! Do you have to remove the rear wheel to get it in? It won't go in from the carb side... am I doing something wrong?[IMG]

I got mine out from the carb side, It was a B!#@H I removed the carbs and two f the carb boots on the right side, I even removed the starter. and twisted and wiggled and it finally came out. Im not sure I even did it the correct way as I took the risk of cracking it.
