I'm wanting to put a sportster peanut tank on my xj, however sportster petcocks only have one main fuel line with no vacuum hose. will the bike run without the vacuum hose or am I going to have to weld up the existing hole and cut a new one for the xj petcock?

or is there possibly an existing aftermarket petcock out there that will fit a sportster tank with a vacuum hose port?

You can just put a cap on the manifold like the other three carbs have and be fine. You just have to remember that if you have float issues and you leave the Hardly petcock on on your going to have a crankcase full of gas/oil mix. Best thing is to train yourself to turn it off when you park the bike. Aren't them tanks fairly small? My bike only holds 2.8 gallons now I can't go any smaller or trips would be all stopping and hte fuel stations lol.

I've always liked the looks of the Harley peanut tank.

Please post a pic when you get it installed.

I'm used to it. i have a 2 gallon tank on my 1200 sportster and that thing absolutely loves to drink haha so hopefully this will be a little better mileage. I'm just building a little bar hopper anyway. not a long tripper. thanks for the reply

    No prob,

Minturn, I am the opposite I dislike the looks on the peanut tanks hehe. But thats what makes life interesting if we all liked the same thing Man the world would be boring. Def post up some pics of the progress. I am interested to see how you get it mounted. I myself would luv a I think they call it fat bob dual tank on my bike. But have yet to even look to find an old one to cut up and try to fit on there.

So when your carbs screw up and flood the engine with gas you will know it. Thats why the factory put automatic shut off via vacuum valve in the petcock.
