I am putting my breaks back together and have a couple of questions.

    1) Should I put break fluid on the new dust seal and fluid seal before installing?

    2) Is it OK if I use grease on the slider pins? It says to use graphite grease but all I have is the high performance.

    Thanks so much.

if by "high performance" you mean wheel bearing or chassis grease, the answer is NO.

You need actual brake caliper grease, either graphite or the high-temp silicone stuff specifically for brake applications.

If you don't want to buy a whole big 'pot' most auto parts stores offer it in little packets good for 1-2 calipers, usually at the counter. Just ask.

Sorry, missed the first part of your question. Yes, its a good idea to lightly lubricate all the new components with clean brake fluid. LIGHTLY not "slather."

Awesome. They had the packets you were talking about. Used one for one caliper. Clean and put on the second caliper tomorrow and bleed. Should be riding by the evening (If I can get the blasted pin out).

    Thanks much for your help!!

That damn pin is something else. "Sliding pin" quickly becomes "beat it with a hammer pin" when it's been in there for over 20 years. I've found that if you tap it out far enough to grab onto it, twisting helps.

    Thanks, Buff.
