Not sure if I will put one on or not, but I do commute 42 miles per day and the wind gets pretty vicious here in Central Texas. Wondering if there's one windshield that is a bit of a forum favorite. One that works well with the rectangular headlight of the '82 Maxim 750. Handlebars had been butched to mount a Spitfire which did nothing. I put it on the curb for trash sooon as I got home with the bike. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

I can't recommend anything personally, but, the more rake it has on the front, the more it will help with fuel economy.

You should probably find a way to test a couple of different configurations. Some people prefer a shield that comes up chest level but doesn't go up to their face thinking they can duck lower to get behind the shield if need be, but don't like looking through the shield. Others want the shield high enough to protect their head to reduce noise and head buffeting.

You will want to experiment with size and style. Expensive to get one and decide you don't like it.

If you ride without a face shield, the latter is probably the better option. I don't understand how people can ride without shields. I am constantly hearing things hit the face shield and routinely have to clean off bug guts. Every now and then I have tried to ride with the face shield up a bit for more air, but quickly close it as I get pelted by so many things, primarily bugs.

I like a windshield that I can look over but is high enough to keep air moving over my head. I see enough stuff hit it that I'm glad did not hit me.

You will lose 2 to 3 MPG in fuel economy but it's worth it at least to me. There was a lot of discussion about types of shields a while back but as Mike says it comes down to personal preference.

I have a Vetter full fairing and love it. It is a little heavier than a bar mounted set up but it also gives you some storage. I didn't see any appreciable decrease in fuel economy but if I did it would more than make up for the comfort. We get the stiff constant winds on the high plains too.
There are several guys that have had good luck with the Slipstream sport models.

I agree with bill that seeing over the screen is a good thing, especially after 250 miles worth of bug splat on the screen. I have the tall screen on mine and have thought of replacing with a lower one.

You will thank yourself for getting a windscreen after you ride behind for a few miles. You'll never go back.
