Yep ... go slow. Be smooth. Try not to stall it. Signal with the blinker ... backed-up by hand signal. (They love that stuff.) Practice doing a tight circle and a figure - 8.

Be courtious. Let people turn and old ladies cross the street.

If you have a route that requires you to stop ... STOP! Put both feet down and look everywhere before resuming motion.

    Have fun with it.

when making a turn (and figure 8) turn your head. when turning, look through the turn- not right in front of the bike- letting your peripheral vission pick up whats right in front of you. When your doing a figure 8, turn your head as far as possible to look in the dirrection that you want your bike to END UP facing.

    obviously, practice practice practice.

Watch your visor/glasses! I wear glasses and a full face helmet. I failed my first test because it was very hot and my glasses kept fogging. I cracked my visor and ran with a little breeze.

Apparently since my glasses were not DOT (NY) approved it's considered riding without a visor - safety failure.

This was twenty years ago and I am STILL PISSED!

Wear contacts - keep your visor down or bring goggles.

Practice your figure eights and you'll be fine.

Don't forget that the person giving the test is probably a rider as well - treat them with repect and you'll pass with flying colors!

    Welcome to the show!

Thanks everyone for the help. But i came into some bad news, took the bike to get inspected today. Needs a new front tire, not a biggie i guess, but they say the bearings in the front where the handle bars make the forks turn are totally shot. I failed inspection for these 2 reasons. My test is in 5 days and they cant fix the bike for 2 weeks.

Just wondering if you can borrow a bike to take the test or does it have to be taken on the bike you will be riding. I took my driving test some years ago, but I took it on a Yamaha 125 enduro, passed with no problem, had a younger kid show up on a brand new Electra glide and even tho they moved out the cones for the U turn he still dumped it. Never forget the look on his face or the fact he could get it back up without help.

You could pull the bearings off in about an hour, two tops. This is provided you have the parts, tools and the know-how. I'm assuming (there I go again) you feel you lack in one of these areas. Give it your best shot, you've nothing to lose. The front tire can be swapped out quickly if you pull the rim and take it down to the shop. Expect to blow about $125 for a good new tire (DO NOT waste your money on a Chen Shin). Vanee has a very valid proposition, I hope your comfortable riding someone elses bike. It might be a very good idea on short notice. Best of luck to you!

Hey guys just thought i'd finish up this post and let you all know I took the test on my Enduro...And I PASSED!!! the tester was so impressed with my circles and 8s i pretty much had the test passed before i even drove out on the road. I did them in a quarter of the room given. She said she has never seen some one do them so tight and with such control. Shes seen people use all the the parking lot and still dump the bike.(that must be embarassing). Well thanks all for your tips and pointers...now the next job is fixing the bearings on the maxim so i can take her out solo...
