I put a pic of my '81 XJ650 Maxim on the local radio station for a hottest bike contest they're holding. Make us XJ owners proud by voting for my bike! Here's the pic I submitted.......

Spread-out a blanket
Lay prone.
Get the Camera as LOW as you can.
Don't have Jack-Do-Diddly-Squat in the Shot ... But the Bike.

I really like your bike, but I totally agree with what Rick said. That picture really does not do your bike justice at all.

 

A jockey shift with a handlebar clutch? How hard is it to find neutral at the lights??

 

Not at all hard, Hillsy, just find it before you come to a stop.

And as for the pic not being a contest winner.....Have you clicked on the link to see the other pics? There is not one "show pic" in the bunch. Most are semi blurry shots of bikes on someone's lawn, lol. I think there might be one where someone actually took a pro shot of their bike, and I'll tell ya what, it really lacks character. If I did that with my bike, it wouldn't be as raw and visceral. That's why I did it in my garage with sparks flying in the backround. I wanted to let the viewers know it was built in that tiny one car garage. That's what gives it soul.

 

The problem is you really can't see much of the bike. (Nice bike, btw).

It's probably too late, but you should get another shot of it in the same setting, maybe in black and white? but at a better angle. Lighting will play a big role, with flaring from the welding going on in the background.

 

You actually put it in neutral at a light? Bad move! Always leave ample room in front of you for an immediate evasive manuever in case someone behind you doesn't stop in time. Of course, that requires the bike to be in first gear with the clutch in, scanning the mirrors.

Thanks guys.

CNC guy, if I see someone barrelling down on me from behind, I'm ditching the bike and running for my life, lol. I'd rather run off to the side of the action than go around whoever is in front of me and through a stop light/sign where I could get hit anyway! So far, so good. Been riding for almost 20 years and only got hit once. God was with me, no damage to the bike or my health. But yeah, you always have to assume the worst.

 

LOL! To my way of thinking, the bike can accelerate a LOT faster than I can hop off, get clear, and jump/run away. I stay aware of the surroundings and always plan at least one avenue of "escape". But, whatever works for you is better than no plan at all!

 

Some of those bikes look terrible to me. A big fork and a massive exhaust just look gaudy...

My bike is #56 Thanks guys! Right now someone has a lot of friends out there, because the current winning bike is a STOCK 883 sporty and if you guys thought my pic was unprofessional, you don't even want to see that pic.
