Trying to investigate the poor low speed running of my 1989XJ600 I found a previous owner has removed the standard air filter and fitted some ladies tights (Pantyhose).

I am hoping somebody will say "Buy a proper filter and your motor will stop falling asleep below 2500 rev/min"

    What do you think?

    Thanks

I think the PO had to do some fast thinking to cover up an indiscretion.....don't know about the motor though... :?

I'm thinking it's the first step, for sure!
Can't guarantee it'll solve it, but it's going to help -- no doubt.

    XJ600? It's definitely a starting point.

it will def help you might want to check if he swapped out any jets as well. Have you had your carbs apart at all? You could also have partially clogged pilot jets.

I'm thinking anyone who used women's hosiery as an air filter probably wasn't technical enough to even know what jets ARE...

+1 Fitz, I would get a proper filter in there and see where you stand!

lmao! some of the things you find huh? I'd go with a k&n filter, and if that doesn't solve the issue, it's time to go into the carbs, carefully of course, and with a manual.

Are you sure you're looking at the motorcycle intake and not the clothes-dryer exhaust? That's hilarious.
