4 cans of Semi Gloss Engine Enamel, basically everything painted black that i could very easily.

Bike master drag bars 17.99 jc whitney. Dont hit gas tank.

Shotgun shells as frame plugs (thanks to someone i seen on the internet great idea) with single LEDs as turn signals. Drilled out primer cap and superglued in. Dont work yet but they sure do look cool.

Side mount i made myself. 5dollar brake light from walmart and a 3dollar piece of sheet metal from Lowes and thats what you get.

I still need to figure out the exhaust the old ones suck. Im thinking about cutting the pipes right behine the hpipe and have two turndowns with makeshift baffles.

Stock seat cut and sanded down to its current shape. i used really cheap vinyl, kinda like tablecloths that have the fuzzy on the back.

Still need to mount rear fender, build forward controls and get the turn signals working but for now i really like it.

    Questions? Let me know.

Looks cool ! And if you scratch it you can use a sharpie for touch up paint.
Any thoughts on doing anything else other than the afore mentioned?

Kind of a shame that you had to cut up such a nice original bike.Looks okay, but I liked it much better before.

What did you use to get the engine so shiny in the 3rd picture down. I really need to polish up my engine this year as I just had my 85 XJ700 completely repainted.

i dont think i did anything to shine it up. I know i had the bike for two days, it ran like shit so i tore it apart shortly after. Might be the angle. Sorry you dont like it now but i ride it. Im not really into the old fashioned street cruiser look. I chose this bike because it was cheap, great motor, and easy to make it what i want. I dont really care what other people think. I love it and thats all that matters. i merely posted because i know in this forum there are quite of few people who think exactly as i do.

    That looks super, mate!
One question... you had the pod filters on and then you put the stock airbox back? How on earth did you manage it? I had real trouble with my XJ550 so will be making an experimental pvc tubing thing like I saw on a different thread on the forum.
I haven't seen many of these in England. Folks go for the XS650s, CB750s etc but the XJs get overlooked. I agree with you totally that that the firts incarnation of your bike was gay as f***!
Keep up the good work and ride safe,
    Peter.

Looks great, Keep adding your own touch, that's what makes it so special. I appreciate the original bike but I've never been one to leave stuff alone, as I was lookin over your bike I said "hey cool, the dudes got shotgun shells in there"

The pods sucked. I I rejetted to to 116 mains and 41 pilots and through the pods on but it ran like crap. I took it to a buddy who races mini sprints and knows all about these 4cyl bike engines and i was lean as hell. However he also seen that my intake books from the carbs to the motor were leakin bad. I put slathered silicone all over them and now they are good. I had the old airbox and said f it i want to ride so i through it back in. It was kind of a pain and is broke in one spot but i got it back in. See runs very very well now.

Honestly it took me in total hours on this bike probably about 6. I mostly was waiting for parts the whole time and once we put the airbox back in she ran great and has ever since.
