I would definetely have those brakes in top shape, SS brake lines are a plus :D (Thanks Chacal). It take a bit to stop once you get it wound up if something were to jump out in front of ya...
Top end is somewhere near 125mph. ¼mile in 12.5secs@ 106 I believe, a bit faster with the power up kit.

I hit 160kph the other night (100mph) I don't really have a problem with the speed and have gone faster than that, but I don't think I would on this bike!! it's a cruiser so I think I'll stick to cruising!! and leave the racing to the sport bikes! with the windshield on it's wobbley and with it off I'm a human parachute!!

Both my XJs have new tires, new brakes, new shocks and freshly rebuilt forks and I still don't push it to 100. (OK, maybe once or twice a season.) I DO spend a lot of time on the freeway at between 75-85mph though, just keeping up with traffic. You cannot ride that fast, safely, with old components.

Don't ride a 25+ year old bike that fast unless it's been completely gone through. Please.

Where exactly do you live that 125mph is not enough? Aside from track riding there is no where that I can possibly think of where you would need more speed. The turbo 650 tops out at 140 I believe. Something close to that. Its higher than 125 though. Hell my bike will do 200mph+. I will never know exactly how fast it will go cause im old enough to know its not a good idea. I sold my last one cause I got clocked at 173 and nearly lost my license. Take it from me...speed is fun but the consequences can be dire. Once you get the turbo running right you will probably keep it. There are faster things out there but the feeling you get from riding a bike under boost is like no other.

The Turbo bike is geared exactly the same as regular Seca 650/750 ' s , so to do 140 you'd be deep in the redline. And there's no convenient re-gearing option.

But there have been folks on here saying the engines will spin to twelve grand without blowing up. Sounds like XJ abuse !

well heres the thing i dont want to sell her i want to rocket her to the end of a half mile stretch and come out on top and the only way to do that is to be able to beat a 94 katana 600 thats factory i have research going on the kat but i need to know the details of my bike as well so that i have or may have a fighting chance

my bike needs a lot of body work and there fore i have seen the prices and its not cheap so thats another factor

Even if you beat your friend's Katana, he'll just say it was the turbo.
I've read about some tricks- - jimmy the wastegate for 15 pounds of boost, lose the right "muffler" , K&N filter , advance the timing , install a slightly bigger turbo , put the guts of a 900 engine inside the 650 cases, that sort of thing.

But how much money do you want to spend to beat your friend?

I'm thinking shaft-drive or not, a PROPERLY TUNED Seca 650 Turbo ought to run off and leave that 600 in a half a mile.

Not a Seca that needs its valves adjusted, its carbs attended to, the turbo and wastegate serviced, etc.

But then again, in what state of tune is that '94 600?

i don't see the reasoning behind having to be faster. i feel it is just as stupid as the people that fly by to pass me then end up going 5 or 10 kph slower than i was, but no, they can't be behind anyone....

SO in conclusion............................................................................................................................................................... I have thought non stop about this idea

I live in indiana so that means i have lots of winter time to tear down clean up nut for nut the bike rewiring and all thats scary for me but it would be the best tribute i could do for the simple fact

That my Dad gave me the bike and its not in bad shape. i know he would love to see it in great shape. so thats what should be done and besides that as my wife stated I dont wnat this to be a vehcle that i am going to have to do more defensive driving for you is it ????????

so there it is and might i say that there is not a web site i have found for the katana that is as informative as this is for our bikes and thats GREAT hee hee ha ha i hope i win and thanks

Katanas suck. There are some fast ones with gsxr 1100 motor swaps, but the stock 600's suck. I would put money that the 650 turbo will beat it.

    Men...*sigh*

Well since you got in a p*ssing contest with your buddy... I'd say a 650 Seca Turbo would beat a 600 Katana IF the Seca was properly tuned and maintained. Also take the rider into consideration. (My brother would get that Seca up to speed faster than I would with my uhm... wonderfullness)

My Seca was not turbo and I had it up to 115mph according to my GPS. It was scary, and a little too unstable for my taste.

Uhmmm query what or is there a set back to having shaft drive cause all my friends are stoked. they have never seen a shaft driven bike and my thinking is two ways on this.....

One is the quick well theres good reason why and thats cause they suck

    OR

Two it means no chain lag or belt lag so its going as soon as i twist the throttle with utmost responsiveness so..............................................

let me know if you wish what your thoughts are on shaft drives thank you

Chain drives consume 2% of your power, shaft drives, or really the 90* bevel gears, consume 5 %, or, you waste 3% of your energy all the time, compared to a chain bike.

In a Honda Gold Wing or BMW, there is only one bevel gear set, so they waste 2 1/2 % as compared to a chain's 2%- - about the same.

I looked up the Katana. Let's assume you and your friend weigh 150 LBS.
    Katana- - 458 LB + 150= 608. . . 86 HP. . . or 7.06 LB/HP
    Turbo- - -577 LB + 150 = 727. . . 90 HP. . .or 8.07 LB/HP

You need to make 104 HP to just beat him.
You also need to launch "on boost" by holding your brakes, clutch, and juicing the bike to six grand.
Even if you can stay with him in the 1/4 mile, he'll run away by the 1/2 because you'll run out of gear- - you can't hold a turbo in the redline at full throttle without something letting go.

    Then there's the brakes.
    Somewhere between weak and dismal.
Your brake lines will puff out like an old lady's Vericlose Veins.
If you ever got to 140, you'd need another 1/2 mile to stop.

(Tell me if you need any parts. )

    Well thanks.

What you need to do, without telling your wife, is buy a 'Busa from an insurance wreck auction- - lightly damaged total. Three grand ??
Then build THIS bike- - -

Assuming my kph-mph calculations are correct the xj1100 should be able to reach about 210-215 kph or low 130's in mph. Is your bike completely stock? If not, what mods does it have. They can have a large impact on performance especially intake, exhaust, carb mods.

for me, speed isnt how high it tops out, but how fast it gets there.
I raced drag cars in high school and 0-60 and 0-100 were what impressed me.
someone flying by me on a sport bike wearing a wife beater and flip-flops at 110 is just stupid. I realize there is a rush that you get when you hit those speeds, but very little separates you from leaving a trail of clothes and skin on the highway and making it home safely

I took my bike to 105 on an empty stretch of highway just to see if it could do it. I politely backed off and never went that high again.

    Hey guy's!!!!!!!
Been riding bikes since I was 9 started on a dirtbike speed for me is still a thril;l I'm 34 now and for you Organized my bike is completely stock so maybe it lost some power something I will have to look during the winter. I had a crotch rocket a zx12r at 185 hp stock and raced with that one so speed is still with me at this age as for getting to 60 mph or 100 kmh it gets there very quicly .... Oh and I'm part of the BFGoodrich drift racing team here in Canada so I do have access to tracks and try my bikes on the track alot. Thats where I speed most of the time not saying I dont on the public roads lolol

    I can't believe a 650 turbo only makes 8 or 9 hp more than a 750.According to the info I found,my 83 750 Maxim makes 81 or 82 hp,and a 650 turbo makes 90?!?! Of course,I suppose for possible liability and reliability issues,the factory probably made a lot of compromises that reduced power,like low boost,restrictive exhaust and intake,etc
Anyway, back to the subject somewhat, the fastest I've ever been on any bike was 100 mph,and that was just trying to keep up w/normal traffic flow, which I still was unsuccessful at,even at 35 over the speed limit
I have a feeling I might try a little more someday tho, since I'm loving the power of this 750

I don't mean to be an ass hat but if you haven't even ridden it yet and you're going to sell because it won't go over 125, you have the wrong idea about what riding is about. That's an opinion that is looked down upon by any responsible rider... and you come off sounding pretty stupid saying that without even having ridden the bike very long if at all.

The reason you ride a motorcycle is because you constantly want to be on a verge of smashing into something? I get that adrenaline is fun, and that's probably part of the reason we all ride, but come on...

EDIT: Just realized this was a random revived thread and I was way late... haha.

well folks i gotta admit one thing. Speed Kills, but also mackes the adrenaline pump STRONGLY. I had my kawasaki zx9 up to 110 by pure neccessity as some cager was trying to cut me off AFTER he saw me passin him and i had to accelerate to beat him to the cut off.(yeah traffic) i did have an out the emergency lane but figured my power could easily out accelerate his large SUV and it did. then i have a pissed off driver behind me and me on 2 wheels. might wanna consider that when u are in traffic. I like the speeds of high acceleration but the traffic tickets and court cost are WAYYYYYYYYYYY to expensive. so i keep it sensible now. those stunts and running obvious red lights is merely a tickin time bomb. One that will blow up just when u dont want it to. Ghostrider is now disabled due to this

I've run up to 120 on the XS 850 (Bill crapped when I told him this) 135 on a buddies Eliminator and have had the Max to 130 she was rock solid and just too much throttle left and not enough road to consider finding WOT. 8O Previous owner had her to 145 with throttle to spare. I'll leave that record to him on this 20 year old bike. Like many I just don't want to risk the ticket. In Florida it is auto jail and i'm not up for that!! To many variables on the street. You need to what out for goober cagers, deer, bears and in Fl the occasional gator. 8O I plan on runnig my numbers on the track. It's legal, monitored and fun as all get out!! I'll post them when I get a chance to run the new toy. Nothing says you can't get to speed like a rocket!! I got pulled ripping up to 60 mph by a local cop only to find out he was a Vmax fan, thank GOD!!

Gotta LOVE biker cops, they truly understand the occasional hiccup in behavior and IF ya got any sense keep cool and dont make excuses,(well maybe this one will work for ya,Why were u speedin? I saw u comein after me and my wife ran off with a cop last week, thought u was tryin to give her back!!!) ya MIGHT just catch a brake,(he he he intentional).
Sure Glad u did Dave i beat my ticket as the cop lost sight o me and didnt catch up for 3 miles,he knew he had nothing to stand on in court and didnt bother to show up afer readin me the riot act on the side o the road!!!
My lucky day too. THANK U GOD !!!
