hey so I bought a yamaha 82 xj750 and I'm having trouble with it. I can turn it on (with some effort as the battery seems to be down) but unless i constantly give throttle, the bike wont idle and the rpm will just decrease to 0.

How can I fix this? Even if I have the bike started up and in neutral, if I don't give any throttle, it will die in a few seconds and just turn off.

    Please help me out!!!!

please tell me what to do. i've been told by some people about adjusting an idle screw but I don't know where that is, I'm totally new to bikes. Please help!
    thanks!

Did it sit for a long time? Mine did, for almost two years. You're probably going to hear quite a bit that you need to clean/rebuild the carbs. Unless the idle was messed with before, it's probably fine. Mine are in the process of soaking now, so I can get it running. Just a consideration.

two things, is fuel getting to the carbs.
second, the idle screw is on the carbs. the knurled nut is inbetween the carbs and the airbox. Turn clockwise to increase rpms

THIRD, do yourself a favor and buy a manual. Chacal, one of the forum members, should have a manual for your bike.

ummm I am not sure if fuel is getting in to the carbs.. I am assuming so.

When riding the bike rides fine, I'm just having the problem when idling.

If the idle screw is on the carbs...would I need to remove the gas tank first and then find it? I have a Haynes Owner workshop manual but it doesn't help me much cuz I'm a total newb at this.

if possible, can someone provide me with picture on how to get to idle screw? The book (Haynes manual) says not to mess with it as it comes preset and they don't recommend changing it for some polution law or something along the lines.

Below are two pictures of the engine...not sure where idle screw would be. Please help. Thanks.

Here's where the idle screw should be, between carb's 2 and 3. Make sure the bike is good and warm before you set it.

Okay so how do I access the screw? Do I need to remove the fuel tank to get to it?
