2 noises that concern me...

    OK, maybe they are more sensations then actual noises...but here goes:

    If I pull the clutch in and then the bike rolls forward, if I let the clutch out it kinda "clacks" when it engages. Reminds me of an old loose rear end in a pickup truck clunking on and off throttle.

    The 2nd noise which may or may not be related to the first is: when I pull away from a stop at lower RPMs and not slipping the clutch that much, there's a deep grumbling noise coming from the gearbox. Again it feels more than it sounds, and it feel like a low frequency vibration...

    What does everyone thing? Time to change the clutch? Gearbox is getting worn beyond limits? Stop using my Maxim as an adventure bike? lol

    My Maxim does the same thing. I was told a new clutch and clutch springs would cure it. My bike has over 50k on it and I don't when or if the clutch was ever replaced.

    Cool, yeah mine just rolled 34000 miles and I am in the same place with knowledge of maintenance history.

    Check your swingarm bearings. I had some strange noises on my old 900 that I thought were coming from the drivetrain but ended up being dry (and worn) swingarm bearings. The bearings are really quite small and will wear quickly if they are over / under tensioned.
