Many of you know or have otherwise corresponded with bill on this forum.

I have just received a call from his son saying bill was taken to the hospital this morning. The details are as yet sketchy but here is what I know. bill was in a motorcycle accident this morning. He has been taken to the trauma center. His son says he has apparently experienced brain trauma and is having a tube inserted (presumably to relieve pressure/swelling?). His son was having trouble keeping his composure during the conversation so it must be very serious.

I will probably not post again until late this evening but please keep bill in your thoughts and prayers.

Wow this is some heartbreaking news... I really hope and pray that he will have a full recovery. I also pray for his family in this time.
I have just recently joined this website and Bill was the first one to welcome me. I was truly impressed with not only his knowledge but his willingness to share it with anyone on the site.
I was really looking forward to meeting him in person on the Aviation Museum ride in a few weeks.
    He is in our thoughts......

Bill was also the first person to welcome me to the forum. His XS 400 thread was what made me decide to post and not just lurk. He is a wealth of knowledge, and he shares it freely. Please pull through Bill, I just don't know what else to say... you have everyone's thoughts and prayers.

I am new here and this is my first post, but my thoughts and prayers are with Bill and his family. This is very close to home as my dad was in a bike wreck also about 6 years ago. It will be a very long road ahead but the support of others helps so much. Get well soon!

I'm terribly saddened by this bad news concerning Bill.

We ask The Almighty for the Grace to allow Bill to recover from his injuries and return home, soon, to be with the ones that love him and need him.

Lord, be at Bill's side to strengthen and comfort him and all of those who appeal to You for Bill to recover from this accident and be well again.

    Amen.

    UPDATE on bill

First the bottom line: bill remains in critical condition but he is stable. Of course he has been unconcious and kept unconcious since the accident.

    Now the details:

I went to the hospital to visit his wife and children (ages 18 and 20). They were already surrounded by many friends and relatives. According to them around 7 am a woman in a van turned into his path as she turned into a private drive. Bill must not have even had a chance to slow. He was about a mile from his house. He has head/brain trauma, a broken right wrist, maybe a broken right shoulder, and some indeterminate gash on his left knee. It goes without saying that he is massively bruised. It was interesting that even with all these injuries, the paramedics and hospital staff said his helmet did its job. I of course could not see bill as only family are allowed in critical care.

The news first reported that he had been killed. This was based on the fact that the paramedics twice lost his pulse. Once at the scene, and once in the ambulance. I also saw this news post along with two of my co-workers who also know bill via me. We were besides ourselves until we could confirm otherwise. (His son had called me prior to the post)

His wife heard the sirens and tried to call him on his cell and at work to no avail. The accident happened in front of the house of an off duty Raleigh Police officer who happens to go to their church. He immediately contacted their pastor. Bill's wife and children first heard of the accident from him. You know when your pastor unexpectedly shows up at your house early in the morning the news is not likely to be good.

The next 72 hours for bill are very important. This is when the swelling will be at its worst. Fortunately he is where he needs to be...at a good hospital with all those who know him praying for him.

I told his son, daughter, and wife of the tremendous response from this forum. They were very appreciative and I think a little proud that bill has positvely affected so many people...most of whom have never met him.

I will continue to post as I know more.

In the meantime keep him in your prayers. The world is a much more interesting place with bill in it.

Wow, ummm I am very sadened to read this esp. about a man who has helped so many even without physically meeting us. I wish him and his family the best and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. I think about this everyday on my way to work as my bike is all I have to drive. Good to hear he wore his gear even tho his injuries are bad It may have made all the difference between the worst and him recovering.

Seen that there were no charges being pressed on this lady in the van. I know accidents happen but a person should be held accountable for their innablity to pay attention. I think there should be charges pressed against people for not paying attention to what is around them. Then maybe these kind of things would be less likely to happen. Sorry didn't mean to go off like that. It just bothers me!
My thoughts are with you and your family!
