This is for future reference. I just went out to my bike tonight and the tire was flat. I looked all over on the the riding surface to find something in the tire and couldnt find anything. I checked the beed and thats where my leak was. This maybe be more obviouse than I think. Can brake fluid eat the beed of a tire up?

I changed the brakes and blead it out really good about 2 or 3 months ago. I'll admit I was pretty sloppy with the bleedind part and I was only making sure I didnt get it on the pads.

I did cleaned it off the tire but as for getting into the beed probably not. Until today I have not had an issue with the tire in any way. So is it possible that it would take 2 or 3 months before the beed went to crap from brake fluid? I did read the back of the bottle and I seen nothing about dont get on any rubber. This tire is only 4 months old.

I know if this is why my tire beed got ate I'm an idiot so you dont have to tell me.

I know it wont hurt car tires so I don't think it will hurt a bike tire. Did you check the valve stem to see if it is leaking?

Yes I checked everywhere on the tire. The only place I could could find it leaking was a section along the beed. I guess I'm just amazed it just went like this because I just rode this bike over a 125 miles on monday.

Your right if it doesnt bother car tires you wouldnt think it would bother bike tires. I'm just seeing if anyone has come across this issue.

No hard bumps of any kind. Also It sat for a week before I had went out that day.

This is an 82 yamaha XJ650 are these bikes suposed to be tubesless tires? Its double nutted on the valve stem wich makes me think it has a tube.

    Bead Leak.
    Very common.

Ugly funk grows between the Tire Sealing Bead and the Rim.

    Get rid of it.

Make the Rim Bead Sealing Surface Shine.
The air can't sneak-out and leave you flat.

    Excellent commentary Rick...
I just had a shop put new tires on my bike. 1st clue is that they got the rotation wrong, they fixed the rotation. But I am losing psi every week.

The pictures are the proof I need, thanks.

    yeah, these tires are tubeless.
you couldnt pay me to ride with tubes. if a nail hits the tire, it goes flat very quick
with a tubeless, you have a little time... usually

Sounds like a real professional bunch. I always CLEARLY mark my rims to prevent such silliness. Looking at how the old tire is mounted is apparently too much forethought for most shops.

It can happen to anyone. I always double check them and then a 3rd time when I balance. Last week I caught myself at the last check and had to re-mount it

Shiny rim? Heck, I am more impressed with how perfectly aligned Rick keeps his wrenches in his tool box.

Fastmaxim, you are right about those lousy Chrysler chrome rims. On my wife's LHS I had to put air in the darn things every 3-4 days.... I am glad it's gone :)

Thats what the drawers look like after I have had time to pretty-up after a job or two.

I let folks come and use space, my tools and coaching for less than it would be for them to visit a dealer. I make it clear they are doing the work. Not me. But, ... sometimes I have to pitch-in.

Sometimes, I get a wrencher who has the moves to get a big project done.
Other times I been blessed with a rookies who needs more than coaching and some advice and encouragement.

"Go over to the toolbox and from the top-left drawer ... bring me a Phillips Screwdriver."

    (15 Minutes go by:)

"None of those screwdrivers were Phillips. All of them say Craftsman!"
