My STAR Touring chapter is going Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately SWMBO scheduled our daughter's birthday for that afternoon so I can't go

    Caseville?

What the heck is in Caseville? There being no terrain around and Michigan roads tending to be flat and exceedingly straight for miles, what is the attraction? Mind you, I have never spent much time in the thumb, other than seeing a little bit of Port Huron when visiting relatives ...

Umm, Dave.. M53 runs through Imlay City; M24 through Lapeer 18 miles further west. Might wanta double-check.

I'd join you but I'm probably finally going to get up/over to Kitchener to get the tank stripes measured. If NOT, I'll likely be in Caseville Sunday for a while, probably early. It's supposed to be in the 90's.

If you didn't go any further than Port Huron you missed the best part of the thumb. This was taken about halfway up M25 toward Caseville, above Port Sanilac near Harbor Beach:

And what's in Caseville THIS weekend is the Annual Caseville Cheeseburger Festival.

Wow. All those years I lived in Michigan and I never heard of it. Neither has my wife who lived in Michigan all the way into her early 20's and spent a lot of time around the base of the Thumb ... <chuckle> I wish I could get there, but seriously doubt it.

Hey, that isn't fair. The UP isn't really even a part of Michigan. <chuckle>

Sweeping generalizations are so much fun ... However, by and large, Michigan's roads are, as a whole, much straighter than those in Ohio. Having been settled a bit earlier, things in Ohio weren't as planned or structured as much as they were in Michigan. Michigan was laid out in a grid and parcels handed out, roads following the borders of the grids/parcels. Additionally, the Saginaw bay used to extend all the way over to a little past my home stomping grounds. Everything that used to be under water was left pretty flat as the bay receded. If you have a map and a magnifying glass, there is this little spec in the middle of the lower penninsula called "St. Louis" ...

The UP is another story altogether ... tough to say when or if it ever will be civilized ...

For the western half of Ohio, yeah, most of it is pretty flat, but there are still some enjoyable twisty roads though. But if you go, say, 30-40 mins east of Columbus or S, SE or NE, then all bets are off. Beautiful winding and twisting roads around hills, along rivers, through copses of trees where day turns to twilight, awesome vistas, etc. And, if you make just the right (or wrong) turns, some areas that look like something straight out of Deliverance, if you know what I mean ... I went through a town last weekend that had a sign claiming to be the place of the annual moonshine festival ... y'all aint no revenuers, are ye? ...

It sounds like a nice ride. Although they are calling for rain Saturday and 90's on Sunday. Neither are nice to ride in when you're wearing leather.Might just play it by ear and keep an eye to the sky to make a last minute decision. The clean up on the bike after riding in the rain just sucks. It would be nice to meet a few people from the forum though.

It is going on till NEXT weekend if this weekend is not possible for some to make it this weekend.
