    Hey all, this is my first post.

    Seems like you got a great forum going on here :)

    I come seeking knowledge about a possible bike I might get.

    I just bought a 91' Kawa Vulcan 500 at the start of summer, put some money into it, and now someone wants to buy it and I would break even. To the point where I only would have paid for gas and insurance. I just wanted something new I guess, or at least a different bike; and this one caught my eye...

    Are these bikes worth the trouble of being old? They hard to work on? ect.

    I would say the bike would have to be in VERY good shape for that price. I see XJ's up north going for $500-900 all the time only needing minor work.

    I think that the bikes are extremely easy to work on, have plenty of power, and are comfortable to ride. If you get it, I'll bet that Vulcan will end up sitting a lot more than the XJ. Nice looking bike, if you've got the money, and it's in good shape, I'd go for it!

    Also forgot to add, I haven't done everything possible to my bike, but I have done everything from a motor swap, to complete carb rebuild, to wiring harness repairs, and nothing has been too difficult so far. With the help of a good manual, the XJ CD, and the members here, there's not too much that you won't be able to tackle yourself.

    PS: Since you can't edit posts in this section, does it really top out at 80mph?

    I'm use to a 6 speed on the Vulcan, I assume this has a 5 speed.

    I think that's a bit high for an XJ750 in this area. I got one on eBay a few months back for less than $800, It's not in the conditon that this one is, but the issues are all minor. I have done everything to my 750 now with the exception of the front brakes. I would sell it for $900 if you're interested. May not be as pretty as this one, but it runs like a horse.

    Regardles, it's a very cool bike. I have a 650 and this 750 and really, really like them both. Of course, here at the XJ forum, you would expect people to like these bikes, but there are many reasons for it. They're incredibly reliable, fun to ride and cheap. Also, there are so many different XJs that you can almost certainly find something that will appeal to you.

    Welcome to the forum, I think you should trade in the Cow and move up to the Seca. $1,300 is a bit steep. Rule of thumb is a dollar or so for a cc with extras tacked on to round it out. Subtract any repairs it may need. If the bike is immaculate, and I do mean perfectly so, then the asking price wouldn't be too bad.

    Awesome info.

    Yeah, if I don't have to drop a dime into the bike I'd try to pick it up for like 1.2k

    Is there some kind of cheat sheet hanging around?

    Like the differences between a R and RJ.

    R refers to Seca models. I'm not familiar with an R by itself. The folks at Yammy decided to use the letters to denote model year. Example:
    80 = G
    81 = H
    82 = J
    Simply add an R to the model number and your talking about a Seca. Ex:
    81 = RH
    82 = RJ
    and so on.

    My experience says big city = bigger asking price.
    In any case, that is a pretty clean looking Seca.
    It's got new rubber, 1 year old battery, the exhaust pipes are very clean so it's probably not been messed with internally, looks like it could have been stored indoors (check for rusty frame / fasteners).
    Under 9,000 miles-
    I'd say that it very well may be a good deal.
    If the engine runs strong, you could drive this through the next season and get your maoney back when (if) you decide to sell.
