what is the best way to remove it? cylinders 2 and 4 have it pretty bad, and i am either going to paint them with header paint (I was thinking bright pink :p) or trying to get the chrome to shine through.

I'd like to see bright pink headers, thats interesting. If the rust is heavy and you plan to paint the headers then a good sanding will remove the rust. If it is not to bad then try chrome polish. It won't scratch the chrome.

a lot of the rust isnt too bad, but 2 is really bad.
I had thought about using wire wheel on my drill to see if I can remove it.

on my xj I had flat black exhaust. At one point I had installed a chrome exhaust off of my parts bike. Everyone said that the flat black looked better. I put the original flat black on and they were right. If you are going to paint the exhaust go with a high temp flat black. Chicks dig it.

Yeah, I used flat black on my entire exhaust it looks nice. I have a question on that - I used BBQ paint and I noticed the pipes aren't nearly as hot after a ride as they used to be... does the paint trap in the heat or make it go away better?? Could there be any engine problems following this?

bbq paint is designed to hold my heat because it is thicker, I think. dunno how it will affect the engine though

Helmet, if you can find it, Id suggest finding some Wright's brass polish. And a green scratch pad, let the Wrights set for about a minute then start buffing with the scratch pad.

You will be able to feel when its working and when its time to rub it off....it may not get everything, but Id try it before you start marring the chrome finish....

My headers on the XS11SF were really rusted, no chrome left on the header. I took them to work and put them in the bead blaster. Got most of it off with the exception of areas in between close to where they come together. Once cleaned up I washed them down, dried and painted with some Ceramic header paint.

I used grill and bbq paint on mine before I put them back on. It takes awhile for it to bake on, but it will not harm the engine.
