Anyone know anything about dirt bikes? at least their value

Ok... so I'm trading off my massive guitar amp for something I can sell off (or cash). Around here, a dirt bike is a lot more likely to get sold than my half stack.

Someone made me an offer to trade my Marshall half stack (which I might be able to get 900$ out of, given the economy) for their 2001 KTM 125 SX dirt bike. I looked it up, and Kelly's BB has it retail for about 1500... I'm going to post what the guy typed in his last e-mail...

Someone please translate; without punctuation, I am unable to make sense of the written word

If someone could translate that for me, and then tell me what the think I could get out of the bike, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ported usually means on 2 strokes, that the point where the piston opens the port has been moved by grinding. A race modification, Not reversible.
Nobody in Supercross would race a 8 year old bike.
If it's too tricked out it might need race gas, and not run right just puttin around on it. I have no idea what it's worth.

 

only problem is with all that performance stuff it is going to put alot of strain on that little engine. Try to find a 4-stroke dirtbike, much more reliable. At least 250cc's.

He said he's swapped it around so that it runs on premium unleaded, but he still has whatever the hell it was that made it run the racing stuff... I'm not going to be riding it... I want cash, haha. But in hickville, USA, a dirtbike will sell a hell of a lot better than my half stack

If I could get 900-1000$ out of it, I'd be right as rain. It's apparently been used for racing... the guy new what he was talking about when he was going through it, referenced getting it from some dude that was fairly well known in the area, but I don't know or care about any of that.

He had a whole crapload of other stuff he's done to it as well, all irrelevant to me, because I have a VMax that needs my affection. Do we think 1000$ in a very dirt bike/ATV oriented village would be feasible?

 

So... I have no experience with dirt bikes... but it looks good from here...

 

I'd say as long as it ran with no issues, didn't overheat or puke anything, it would easily be a $1000 bike. I could probably get close to a grand for my worked '89 RM 125 around here, and I'm not even in hickville.
