Why is left signal flashing faster?

Hey guys. I couldn't find anything on this searching, so hopefully you can help me out. Like the title says, my left turn signal flashes much faster than my right. The left signal flashes probably 2-3 times per second.

I've had all kinds of problems with the electrical on this thing. The turn signals were working occasionally, and then not at all. I had to totally replace the wiring, and they work now. Except for the speed thing.

I also replaced all the turn signals themselves, and put them back to stock. I've also replaced the flasher relay.

It seems like an electrical relay would help, but from what I've read, you can't swap it out on an 85 XJ700 like the earlier ones. (unless someone can tell me how to do it?)

Also, I can't upgrade the fusebox on this one, so that is another potential solution out the window.

    Any other ideas?

check the bulbs are the right amps, one bulb down or too low amps will cause this.

I had the same thing on one of mine.

One of the front bulbs had a bad ground.
When the "running" lights were on, it was a little more dim than the other, and when it flashed, it was flashing opposite of the back (since I was interrupting the ground for the running filament)
I ended up changing out the entire socket that was pretty rusty and she is back to normal.

Easy test:In the headlight bucket, swap the signal wires from right to left.
If I remember right, you will take the brown and yellow wires and swap them. Then try it, and if the problem moves to the opposite direction you know it's either the wire or the socket.
I'm sure you checked the bulb correct?

Thanks for the advice. I did check the bulbs, and the whole lamp assemblies are new.

I took it out today, and I noticed that as my RPMs go up, it flashes faster. Would this indicate an alternator problem?

Actually it's the reverse -- too HIGH a load on the one side will cause rapid blinking on that side. If the load is too low - ie not enough resistance - then you'll get very slow or no blinking.
I just ran into this on my bike, with a perfectly functional 1057 bulb that looked and worked fine, but was TOO EFFICIENT, and not generating enough load - causing slow or no blinking on that side. Replaced with a new bulb - works perfectly normally again.
Check all your connections for poor or bad joins - they can cause extra resistance. Check the bulbs to make sure they're not over-watt bulbs. Should be 8w running (for 1157's), and 28w signal/brake (for 1056's or 1057's).

Since it's sort of related to the topic at hand......no intentions of completely derailing. :)

Right flashes, left turns on, but doesn't flash?

This happened after I replaced the fuse box and ignition switch?
(before it was the stock fuse box, and an on/off switch under the seat)

JoshuaTSP - same as my experience above - either the flasher has gone bad (not likely as the right works), or the left side isn't drawing enough current to trip the flasher.

EDIT: loose connection was the problem.

    Thanks for the help!
