I know I haven't been here all too long, but I'll be sticking around. I only have a tiny one car garage that now has 7 bikes in it! And the reason I'll be sticking around is because 5 of those bikes are Yamahas. The XJ will probably be gone soon, but I still have 2 XS 650's and 2 XS 750 triples. I liken the triples to be what would result from an affair between the father of the XS and the mother of the XJ. Shaft drive like the XJ, just minus one cylinder, more the shape overall of an XS. Honestly though, I forsee getting rid of the triples soon too. It just makes no sense to have even 5 bikes. I'd like to have room to work, so I think I'm gonna narrow the field to 2-3 bikes. I'm keeping one of the XS 650s for sure, and I think I'd like to sell my RM 125 and get a Yami WR 250x, or a Zuke DRZ 400. I still have much love for XJ's, but I think my next one will be a baby XJ for sake of making it easier to stretch, lol. Shaft drive is great if you want to keep a stock wheelbase, but it sucks if you wanna stretch. I've seen it done, but man, what an undertaking.

And to my eastern PA buds, I'm still looking to ride, so whenever you guys get a date going, I'll do my best to get leave from the house, lol.

So this isn't a good bye, but I'll not have an XJ for the forseeable future.

Hey, that's what the "Other Motorcycles" section is for, right? :D

Yeah, a shaftie would be tough to stretch. A 550 would be lots easier. Good luck with that. And don't forget the pics. We wanna see!!

Probably not gonna be for a long, long time. I just sold this '75 about 3 months ago.

As soon as it left, I knew I screwed up big time, so I just found and bought the '78 as well as a '79. They will be staying with me for awhile. I might sell the '79 in a few years, we'll see.

That would be a great idea if I actually had a yard, lol. I have the kids swingset up, and a tiny patio, beyond that, there's no yard.

In 2007 I was looking for a decent XS750 triple, only because I couldn't afford a Triumph Thunderbird triple. I finally got a Suzuki GS1100G and we've been very happy together since.
Like you I got 4 bikes in the box. I would like to sell 3 but I'll never get my price this year.
Can you post a nice pic of your best XS750, just for a tease? 8O
    Thanks. Bill

    Dave,
I have it on CL for $2800 just to see if I have any takers at that price, but I'm VERY flexible on the price. I figured with all the time I have into it, and all the one off parts, I might be able to get it, but I won't be hurt if I don't :). If you're asking what you can get it for, just PM me and we'll talk about it.

I just sold it on Wednesday to the guy who helped me out with the laser programming work on the bike. He's been in love with the bike since it was first bobbed, before the rigid backhalf. I gave him a real break on the price, since he did help out with a lot of the build, and he'll most likely be programing more for my next build. The cool thing too is that I'll get to see the bike around.

GET THE DRZ 400. you can very affordably get 45hp out of it with a big flat power curve, hell i may even have a set of cams for it! there is a guy eddie sisneros who built a not so affordable 60hp z400, but that was with a lot of custom porting and several ruined heads.

Actually, about the supermoto style bikes, The guy who bought my XJ has a Ninja 250. They are super light (I lifted his whole bike by my lonesome) and he might be willing to sell it to me for $400. It needs new exhaust gaskets from the head to the pipes, but is otherwise a decent bike. I thought it would be cool to make a hybrid using the ninja motor, part of the ninja frame, and part of the RM frame and all the RM suspension and plastics with the ninja wheels. I'm sure there will be some issues to solve with that mess, but that's what would make it a fun project. It would be my Kawazuki RM 250 EX. If I end up buying it, I'll be sure to post a build thread in the other bikes section.

Oh, and the ninja 250 comes stock with 45 hp :)

yea, no doubt, lol. I love the DRZ's power. I recently rode an LTR that basically has the same motor in it. Talk about torque, geez. But if I can get this bike for $400, that's a ton cheaper than any DRZ I'll be able to find, plus I like chopping anyway. I'll eventually get one though.......
