OK, I'm still working through the run away idle problem that I have. After carb rebuild, I can't get any real throttle response, rpm's don't drop back down to 1050 within a reasonable amount of time if at all and, the idle wants to rise up to 3500-4000 RPM's. I'm at the point where I'm ready to try anything. Could it be possible that the jet openings are now larger after soaking in chem carb cleaner that, they are no longer within orignal specs causing my carbs to run like poooo? Has anyone else had this hard of a problem getting their carbs to decelerate? The key suspects are the ones with the smaller holes #70 & #36.5 but, I'm willing to take suggestions at this point. I've already checked for air leaks using flamable break cleaner sprayed around the boots & bodies. I've gotten a new OEM air filter (suspected that the K&N sucked air too easily) that didn't help either. I've adjusted the idle screw up & down trying to gain control over the idle with no help to stablize the RPM's. The throttle should drop the RPM's to a low enough level to allow a smooth shifting of the gears. Right now I'm jamming gears to shift, not a very satisfying ride. I sound like an idiot at a stop with my RPM's idling at 3500 while burning the clutch attempting to keep the idle under control.

    Thanks
    Ken

Hi Vet, did you split the rack when cleaning? if so it's possible that they are not quite lined up. Anyway something is stopping the butterflys from snapping back & closing propperly.
I trust your slides & diaphrams are in good condition & clunking.

If youre way lean it will tend to do this, hows the plugs look?

If you did split the rack, def check for levelness like wiz said and also check to make sure the return springs between the carbs are set correctly. This got me once where it would return and looked right but 2 springs could go back a notch so to say.

Well guys, that all makes perfect sense. I'll be pulling off the carbs tonight to check out the squareness of my rack. I hope that I can find something obvious. Like I said before, I'll try anything. I would much rather do this myself rather than send the bike to a mechanic that'll check all of the things that I've already done and, charge me a small fortune for his troubles. I'll be posting anything that I find so, no one else has to go through the same problems I've been having.

    Wish me luck
    Ken

GREAT SUCCESS!!! My idle is now under control sooo much better than it was before! I re-squared up my carbs using a level and, found that they wern't as square as I thought that they were. The throttle racks back down to where it should be when I shift. Thank you Mr. Wiz & dqnjuan for the help. I've got another problem though (I'll be posting my Q soon) I'm getting alot of smoke from my pipes. I did just put on new piston rings. I'm thinking that second rings might be in upside down. With a new set of rings, should I be getting much smoke as the rings seat themselves? And what are the chances of something really bad happining if left in too long? Further, if I tare it back down again, do I need to buy a complete new set of rings or, just the 2nd rings that I might have installed wrong? The rings only have 65 miles on them right now. Hmmmmm?

    Thanks again
    Ken
