XJ 665 Hellboy is now Finished

finally my latest project is succesfully finished. An old ugly XJ 650 is now a new pretty XJ 665 ( its still a 650 but 665 sounds mmmmm special) Things i changed on the bike: From single disk brake to double disk brake including the forks from an XJ 650 euro version, added oil cooler, squeezed a fat 160 tire into the rear, custom paintjob (myself), crashbars from a 750 virago, brand new BMW consoles, Bosch Horns, 4x POSH carbon fiber covered airfilters, custom seat cover, Koni Shock absorbers (springs had to be powdercoated) Harley Davidson Taillight, and a few neon light add ons for the evening. Signal lights could not be installed yet due to very expensive relay system (see BMW console) its the same on Harleys and BMW's , touch button system. nevertheless, the bikes' performance is still quite good, im surprised with the very little difference the 160 rear tire made, if you shake the steering wheel very hard you'll notice its not as stable as with the 130, but what the heck, to be honest its a showbike, im riding it for just short and slow distances here in the Philippines. im happy to hear any comments, questions, and suggestions from you guys. Wow, nice job!! I like the new switches and controls, gives the bike a much more modern look. So are the pipes on the left side just fakies? Either way, looks cool, would have been even cooler had you been able to hook both sides up. :lol:

Hey, I nearly asked the same question! Doh! I'm impressed with the exhaust silencers, they really add a nice touch. The 160 looks really aggressive. Any trouble with contact?

 

Yea that works! But I;m curious like Robert about how you cleared the 160.

 

well, they're not fakies, the exhaust pipes are built 4 in 4, so one pipe for each piston, i removed the Y piece below. it makes a realy nice sound.... i guess i'l lose a few horses, but i dont realy need all here in the PH. Thanks man!

What a looker! Your skills are well displayed. I marvel, not only at your fabulous paint job; but also at your custom mods that really look GREAT!

As one who does a little bit of Custom Crafting, myself ... there's just a few other things I'd like to recommend for your consideration.

Stainless steel fasteners all-over ... including the complete carb-kit. I got a Stainless Carb Kit -- all stainless cap screws -- off eBay for 11-Bucks!

Custom rear foot-pegs replacing the antique original's ... which don't seem to match the decor. (If the bike's really going to be a flashy Custom Show Bike -- Think about putting some "Slider's" on ... replacing the footpegs. They'll add an additional Custom-built by you touch.)

Polish the outboard carb fuel bowls until you can look at 'em and see if you need a shave!! : )

Then, get two ... very well endowed Blondes, wearing some designer, next-to-nothing swim wear, to point and smile at your bike when you show it!!!

 

Very curious as to how you fittted the crashbars; any mooding necessary? And are they standard (meaning still avilable)?

 

which accent do you mean? ok, the handle bars, rear springs, and sidestand were powdercoated. the red lines on the seat were made out of the same material as the black seat, and thin rope is inside to give it a little volume. the red flames were airbrushed.

 

they are standard virago 750 (80-85 i guess) crashbars. on 650's there are two holes in front where you normaly attach the horn, there i attached an angle bar across so as to attach one end of the crash bars. the lower end i was able to attach to an existing bolt.. i can send you detailed pics if you want

 

a 9mm spacer took care of the contact problem. (see pics in my gallery) there's a disjunction from the center but not much difference in handling. maybe not recommendable for high speeds. the frame had to be modified as well, but not much. 8) .

How did you manage the 160 tire on there? I'm assuming thats a shaft drive. I have a 1980 XJ650 Maxim and the best I can do w/out rubbing is a 130.130/90-16 tire is on it now Please tell me your secret so I can go wider.

The reason why I looked and found this board is because I want to change from a single brake to a dual. You got info on that mod to help me out?? Ive got an 82 maxim 650.

 

The red flames on the tank, sidecover, front/back fender and frame were done by a simple airbrush. Take note that i pre-airbrushed it with white so the red color would be stronger. The red lines on the seat were done by a simple upholstery in town... the handlebars, sidestand, and springs were powdercoated
