Anyone know off hand what the float height on the '84 maxim 400 DOHC would be, the manual only gives the external measurement using the float bowl drain plug but my bowls don't have the tubes.

My left carb is sitting at 22mm and the right one is at 20mm.

    Thanks

You may as well just fashion a tube and start checking them. Even if we gave you a number, it is only a starting point and you still have to check and adjust from there.

Ok but that gives me another problem finding the brass spouts that go in to the float bowl drain holes, I have none to put a tube on?

I made my own from a spare brake bleeder screw. The screw came in one of those kits that has several different size bleeder screws for like $3 or $4. It was one of the fairly small ones and I had to grind the wrench lands off of it so it would fit in the carb bowl hole, and I ground the screw-in side also so that the hole that goes down the middle is completely open instead of just exposed from one side. I also had a spare, actually and old, carb bowl drain screw o-ring that I placed on that bleeder screw so it wouldn't leak and I had some 1/4 inch tubing laying around.

I simply cut a hunk from a plastic tubing coupler I had laying around and filed it to fit.

I have a few extra pieces of vinyl tubing around, going to give that a try.

I took a small piece of vinyl tubing and used electrical tape to make up the difference in size and it worked perfect, my floats are set within 1mm of the spec in the manual.

    Thanks for the ideas.
