Another question concerning my wife's 82 XJ650. Is there a way to lower the rear of the bike about an inch? I know they make lowering kits for some bikes, but havent found any for this one?

    Thanks

Yes, replace the 12.5 inch shocks with 11.5 or 11 inch shocks.

Can you give me a location to find 11 inch shocks? I checked yamaha parts list and they only show one shock, dont give options on lengths...

    Thanks!

You just have to shop around for them. Ebay is one place for deals on used shocks or try mawonline.com for new progressive shocks. JC Whitney should have some too.

I checked on JC Whitney, didnt find any shocks shorter than stock. Checked on Progressive. They have 11 inch shocks in the 412 model. But it doesnt say if they fit an XJ650. Are the mounting holes pretty much the same size? Of to I need to make sure I get bike specific?

Mounting holes are pretty much the same. Some differ but the bushings in your old shocks can be switched into the new ones.
