    Hello, everybody!

I saw this motorcycle advertised in a nearby city.
Guy selling it says it runs well, and needs only the velocimeter cable.
    He's asking $1,000 firm.
I think it is a bit too much, and I don't like the black motor.
And the handlebar looks strange, is not the original. ???
    Opinions? Advice?
    TIA

It's a 1982 XJ750 Maxim.........the right side cover has been replaced with something shiny, the mifflers are non-stock, the seat has been recovered, the horns look non-stock, but other than that, it's looks pretty original. Those are the original style handlebars for that bike.

And the engine should be bright, rather than black.

Thank you for your fast response.
I don't know why the motor was painted black, I don't like it that way.
The mufflers are from a Harley Davidson, and very loud, I'm told.
But is a thou a good, high, or just so price?

Don't forget the missing grab bar and back rest.
You'll have to hear it run and drive it to see if the engine/carbs are right.
Another strike against it is "unknown" miles

Money talks- - why don't you show the guy what $700 looks like. . .
    Best of luck.

Seems high to me. I payed 1K for the bike in my gallery BUT it only had 10K miles on it and it was in GREAT condition all the way around.

    Mmmmh, yea. I didn't think about the non-working speedometer/odometer.
$700? Maybe, I'll have to call him.

$1000 is too much I paid that for mine 12 years ago but they are wonderful bikes. The velocimeter cable is a cheap easy fix.

I will offer $600, and will go to $750 tops.
I already have the XJ750 Seca, but it needs a few small repairs. However, my trusted mechanic has too much work, and I need something to ride. So I tought that this could be a good buy. But I don't like the black-painted motor.

    A Grand for that Bike?
    No thank you.
I realize that the Engine and most of the Bike got a fully custom, two or three can, eight to ten-dollar paint job.
That comes right off the top, because it looks terrible.

$1000 is way too much for that bike. I agree with RickCoMatic's breakdown.

    Thank you, YVRxj650 and RickCoMatic
That's why I'm asking for advice.
So, $500 would be a fair, even high price?

    That_guy,

Sounds to me like you got an insane deal. I paid $1000 for my bike 18 months ago. It was in better shape than the one that macnifico is looking at.

    Love the bike though.

Yea, first thing to go should be that dreadful black paint in the motor.
I'll talk to the guy later, but I don't think he'll accept $350.
And I don't want to have another "project" in my hands.

if you find a bike in near pristine shape it is worth $1000 just in the labor to retore it. Though something in that condition is not worth $1000 not even close. Offer him like $600 tops and if he still wants $1000 tell him he has a free screws loose and walk away.....just walk away.
