Hi guys new here. Just got my dads old bike for doing his roof. seemed like a fair trade but having trouble tuning it. It doesnt like to idle but i think i got that. Now it seems to be boggin out and stalling at stop lights. Im not very familiar with working on motors so im sure i will be using your help quite often :) The bike is a 1985 yamaha maxim x 700cc. I guess the xj700. I am from Clinton, MA. Thanks for any future help. I tried postin pics of it but im not sure if they worked

Welcome to the sight, and I would say an XJ700 in exchange for some labor is a great deal! I would take that deal any day. This is a great and informative site with many friendly and knowledgable people that can help with almost any issue having to do with these bikes or at least point you in the right direction. Concerning your current problem with bogging down and stalling, almost all running issues with these bikes have roots with the carbuerators. If the bike has not been run in a while, at the least they will probably need a good cleaning, synching, a cleanout of the petcock and screens and I would highly recommend cleaning and sealing the gas tank if it is not or all of your carb work will be in vain! Trust me I made that mistake on my first bike. Please give any more descriptions on the symptoms that the bike exhibits while stumbling and I'm sure there are plenty of us here that can help run down the problem. My first hunch though is the carbs.
