Who do you go with for insurance? Are you happy? Is there a company you used to use that you're unhappy with? Any recommendations in other words?

GEICO has been good to me. When I renewed, they had automatically given me the "1yr rider" discount.

Very easy to deal with on the front end, dunno how the claims dept. acts.

I ended up with Progressive. They were 1/2 the price I got from my auto insurance company.

I have progressive also. Mainly just to be legal a the lowest price. Not happy with the company president fo rgiving $7 million to the ACLU but that is his choice. If I get a new bike I will check out Geico for that reason.

I have USAA, but it's only available to military personel and families. Neither my Mom or Dad were in the military, but my Grandpa was, and he got it for my Mom, and they always had it, so they extended the offer to me. By far the cheapest insurance company I've found for auto/motorcycle, and fairly cheap for home insurance too. For you military or retired military guys, I'd definetly recommend checking into it!!!

I'm with GEICO myself. I guess what I'm really wondering is what the claims dept is like with the various companies. Hopefully it'll never be an issue!

I have political issues with GEICO, so I've been waging a 18 year campaign against them. I've been covered by USAA for 8 years now and am extremely satisfied. As Joel pointed out, they only insure military and dependants so most folks are out of luck. State Farm served me for 13 years but claims was a royal pain with them. Both times I had issues, I was involved with one of their insured as well. The adjusters were not very helpful.

I have to give kudos to USAA too. I've used them for car insurance, homeowners, checking etc for years and have nothing but positive things to say about them. Unfortunately, due to our buttheaded laws here in NJ, they can't write motorcycle policies. So, I use a company called NJ Riders. Very, very cheap. I've never had a claim with them so I have no idea how they are when needed.

I used Geico for a while and was really disapointed.

Buffett didn't become the 2nd richest man in the world by selling insurance cheap. I didn't check GEICO on the bike, but when I shopped my car insurance around GEICO was the highest.

I have my cars through Metropolitan, and their claims handling has been great. Everytime I shop the policy I find that Metropolitan is only a few dollars above the lowest quote so I keep them.

Metropolitan wanted double what Progressive wanted for the same policy. When I got on the phone with a progressive rep, I found that Michigan has a minimum (can you believe it?) rate for motorcycle insurance. I was able to get a bunch more coverage at the same low rate.

I have my boat through Progressive (sold to me by Metropolitan actually). They doubled it after the first year. We'll see if they do the same with the bike.

Have Progressive on my V-Star. Full coverage only cost 300 a year. Got rear ended a back in Jan 2005, bike was totaled. Bought it back from the insurance company and rebuilt it. Had my check from Progressive in a week after the accident. They gave me more than I paid for the bike new.... I am sticking with them for now..

thats what it boils down to with insurance companys they all say how good they are and how there the cheapest but what matters is when you get into an accident then you find out real quick how good they are.

Talk about learning a lesson the hard way though. That's why experience from these people who HAVE gone through the whole process is important. I don't think any of us want to use insurance, but we need it none the less.

BTW, I just have liability only on the Max, it's about $8 per month. Do any of you guys run full coverage? I just figured for what piddly amount they'd give me if it was totalled, I'd rather just have liability. Plus, if I wreck it out of my own stupidity, I'd rather not report it anyway and have my rates jacked way up.

That's about the way the insurance company see it; too.

In our minds, our bikes are like treasues from The Ming Dynasty.

The insurance company sees 'em as Dog's Playing Poker.

The one thing that impressed me about Progressive was their claims adjuster knew motorcycles. He wasnt just a pencil pusher who knew nothing bout bikes, he actually knew what he was looking at and everything. I was very impressed. And when they settled for 200 dollars more than I paid for the bike brand new, well that sold me on progressive. Specially since the bike is an 03 and this happened in 05, so the bike was two years old...

Incidently, even though the woman hit me in the rear end, no one was charged, so this wasnt the other insurance looking for a quick settlement, this was my insurance paying me.
