Ok so i shortened my clutch cable the other day and while i was at it i noticed the return spring was broken...

The question i have is this...

I put the bike up on the center stand to check the clutch out today after checking the carbs. Well put in first gear the back tire spins.... if the clutch is adjusted correctly when on the center stand and the clutch pulled all the way in the tire shouldn't spin right?

My thought is that i might have to get a return spring in order to get the cable tight enough without disengaging the clutch...

    thanks,

As far as I know, my back tire has always spud with the clutch in on the center stand. It's adjusted perfectly for riding, though. I think that there is some friction on the clutch pack with the clutch pulled, but not enough to move the bike. Meaning the clutch never 100% disengages, but the TINY amount of force the engine is transferring to the clutchpack isn't enough to move the bike so it just slips a bit.

I think of a torque converter in an automatic transmission in a car. The torque converter is still spinning when you're in drive but stopped, but the amount of torque being delivered isn't enough to overcome the inertia of the vehicle with the brakes applied. But if you let off the brake, the car starts moving forward...

With the clutch in, only a small fraction of the torque gets transferred to the rear wheel and it's not enough to move the bike, so the cluch discs slip.

    Just my experience!

With the rear wheel in the air and the clutch cable pulled in the wheel may still spin from the friction of the oil between the metal and fiber disc. Normal for this to happen.

Normal. But you should also be able to reach up with your toe and gently stop it from spinning.

BE CAREFUL if the clutch is dragging it can grab your foot.

thanks guys you were right it's normal!

tire spins can't even stop it with foot or rag but when sitting on the bike in first gear clutch in no movement.

the only thing is the friction zone seems to be almost all the way out of the clutch....

does that mean i've got to replace the clutch soon?

For 2 years my 750 would occasionally flare under a full throttle load.
That's about 4,000 miles. I got this Turbo clutch that's supposed to go in some day. . .
So what happens if you loosen the adjustment a little, does it still slip?

Yeah I Lossened it off and it's good...

That being said i tightened it first to see what would happen and nothing changed.... so i lossened it off back to where i had it...

    So far so good....

gotta sync the carbs the do the colortune.... then do the stearing bearings and the bike is done.... for now....

battery died on me this morning so i'm charging it to do the sync
