I just bought a 1981 Maxim 650. I am having problems with the right turn signal. The left side goes on and blinks and autocancel works. I did a couple of test to help diagnose. I switched the left and right rear signals and the right works on the left side. I did the same thing to the front and the right works on the left. I did this so I knew the sockets or bulbs were not bad. The relay makes a sound when the left signal is operating but not the right side. I have not test the switch and would like to check the switch to narrow it done. Can someone tell me what else to check and how to check signal switch? I also want to say thanks because I am new to motorcycles and this has been a great resource.

I checked and there was a loose wire in the signal.

Could you be more specific? The turn signal or the turn signal switch? If it is the turn signal which is it? I am having the same exact problem. I think mine is the right front. It works sometimes then it does not. It's only the right side that does not work. The left side always works.

    Thanks

It was a wire in the switch. I took the switch apart and cleaned it. What I found out is there was a short because when I moved the wire running up the handle bar the signal started working. It was a short in the wires coming into the switch. Sorry I posted in wrong area.
