Not by choice, obviously, but it had to be done.
I was on the way to work this morning, and 2 blocks from work, I am second in line in the left turn lane at the light. The light turns green, so the car in front of me starts to go, and I wait a second and then take off. The car somehow over-turned the left and started driving toward a sign and median, which I saw, then swerved to avoid the sign. I saw the swerve, but did not expect the brake lights. the car stopped right in front of me. I had about 10 or so feet between us. no time to straighten up from the turn, so I locked up the brakes and jumped as it went down.
    I hit, bounced and rolled.
got up, got the bike up as soon as I could and looked to see if the car stopped. no dice. kept going. 2 cars stopped to help out of the many at the intersection. I pushed the bike out of the intersection and put it on its kickstand. inspected myself... bumps, scrapes, rash. not too bad.
fired the bike up and she is smoking blue. got oil in the cylinders. got that to clear up some and proceeded to work.
as the morning went on, the pain in my side got worse. made a trip to the doctor and they did x-rays. I cracked a couple ribs.
2 scripts for pain killers and I packed up from work and have 2 days off to rest a bit.
rode the bike home and she is still running okay. a few new bruises on her, but I cant complain considering how it could have turned out.
I was maybe doing 10 or so mph. not real sure. it still hurts no matter the speed.
my last laydown was 16 years ago doing 45.

thats what I thought. no one got a plate. I know the cars make and model. it wont be hard to find. I think the person works where I do. but, where I work is 15,000 people in one campus... When I do find them, I will let them know about it
    trust me.
they will pay for the magneto cover, speedo cover, peg and blinker light

Good to hear you weren't hurt worse than that Helmet.
Sucks that you were done in by a "non-driver" idiot who didn't even stop to check on you. What gear were you wearing?

glasses, boots, helmet. no jacket. long sleeves and very thick pants.
had I been wearing my normal attire, I would have been wearing short sleeves and dress pants.
thankfully a rider that I know stopped to help
another woman stopped and offered to call 911. I told her not to. would only have raised my insurance and wouldnt have made much difference. luckily I havent restored the bike yet or I would have chased that person down.

Man that really bites. Good luck on finding parts U may be better off than i since you don't have an X i have some parts that I have been loking for since I bought the bike and Haven't located. your only options are 85 or 86'. Glad you are to banged up and that the bike is still in running condition. Even with the warm weather i have been wearing my armoured jacket. I picked up a nice mesh one last summer that breathes pretty good (so you stay cool) it also has a liner for the chilly days but has pretty decent armour in the forearm, elbow, should chest(on both side of zipper), upper and lower back. The jacket was inexpensive so I expect that if in the event I go down it will need to be replaced but I am fine with that if is saved me some hurt. For your safety and piece of mind plz check into a mesh jacket with armour.

thanks maximXX. I am going to look for a jacket this weekend. I wont be able to ride until I heal my ribs some, so it will be a good time to tear down the carbs, etc.
I need to fix some things that I have been putting off, so could be a good time to get on it.

Shaun- thanks for the wishes. the pain killers are doing wonders for me right now

Glad to hear your not hurt worse than you are. Just remember if they work with you its not worth loosing your job over which is probley what would have happened to me (bad temper and all) an eye for an eye its just going to be hard fliping their car on its side. Well I hope you have a speedy recovery and good luck on your parts search.

Sorry to hear about this, but glad you're OK. Some cagers just drive with their head up their ass, no 2 ways about it. Best of luck on the heal.

Glad to here you're (kinda) OK.

Did you actually hit the car? I know it sucks, but you may be at fault if you've hit the guy from behind.

If that's the case I'd be a bit careful about trying to get him to pay for damage to your bike

helmet, sorry to hear about your incident. Just to let you know...... Broken/cracked ribs suck beyond belief. I'm pretty sure that intra-cranial surgery hurts less. The good news is that they don't hurt all the time. Only when you inhale/exhale, sit down/stand up, walk/stand still, move your eyes left to righ/right to left, laugh/cry, and for goodness sake DO NO SNEEZE OR COUGH.

Take it easy and remember? After only six months or so you will hardly remember it happened!

    Glad you're pretty much OK.

Scary - hope you heal fast.

I doubt you can hold legally responsible the driver of that car you were following. Let us know how it works out.

This morning I was passing a car on the left lane, going a bit above the speed limit when an Audi started tailing me. After passing - maybe it took 20 seconds, I don't know - I put my flasher to go into the right lane and free up the left one. As I'm moving right, the Audi tries to pass me on the right but isn't fast enough. The guy starts blasting his horn and passes on the left. At the light he stops along side and words some insults to me I can't quite make out. I just stare at him until the light changes to green and then I take off at traffic speed.

I think some cagers out there just hate bikers and would like to see us take a fall. I'm not saying the guy in front of you was trying to lay you down - but I wouldn't be surprise if it was the case either - like that VW playing chicken with a biker.

I don't think we would see that kind of behavior in Europe. I rode over there and I had the impression that cagers respected the bikes and scooters.

this thread keeps poppin up and I laid down in May. :D
it seems that the patience people have around here is small, so they will run over their own mother in a power chair to get through the light before it changes to red.

So, how are the ribs now, Helmet?

And did you ever find out who was driving that car that swerved in front of you?

ribs are good, but if I lay on my stomach, I can still feel it after a while.
I have torn my body up from football, wrestling, etc, but nothing compares to busted up ribs.
as for the driver of the car, I never bothered to find the person. figured they didnt see me anyway. wouldnt do much good to chew them out if they didnt know what they did

You must be from the Chicago suburbs too! I can't even count how many people I see on a daily basis running lights.
