    Just trying to put 5.1 ft lbs onto the short holding down bolt on the starter motor & it didn't feel right, thought I might have pulled a thread, so whipped it back out & look at that. 8O

    I remember that happening when I was torqueing the head on a GPZ900r. One of the studs stretched like that. Pretty freaky ain't it?

    Gotta love what torque can do when a bolt has faulty heat treating eh?
    I've had that happen too - I know exactly what you mean by that feeling of "didn't feel right".

    I don't know if it was faulty heat treating or the heat treating being drawn out by age and repeated heat cycles. That right there is EXACTLY why we REPLACE "critical" bolts like rod bolts, brake rotor bolts, etc.
    Pretty wild that it happened on a small, relatively understressed bolt like that. A PO may have begun the process.
