iirc, the 650/750 tanks are the same length from the front mounts to the rear mount, but I honestly have no idea on the 1100s. Hopefully someone on here has one (bike or tank) that can chime in with more helpful info.

You could always just cut the tank to bits and put it back together, if you feel like diving that deep into it. Just helped a friend do essentially that to an 82 honda cb750 tank, cut 5" out of the width, but it was alot of work for us to get it back to 'finished' after it was all welded back up.

The 1100 tank has one bolt that mounts it to the frame , its on the rear of the tank. I think it is similar to the 650/750, I don't know the exact length. I can measure mine, what dimentions do you need? Center of mounting bolt to where?
What is the tank capacity on the 650? The 1100 holds close to 5 gallons.

thanks for replying not sure what measurement. my tank has the mount with one bolt in the center in the rear too.... i guess i need to know from the mounting hole to the front of the tank but not measured from the hump over the top of the tank kind of a strait line measurement . also if the fuel valve is the same.

    Hey Assassin,
Happy to say I can help with this, just hope I got to you in time. You are in for way more work than you might think. the 650/750 tanks are fairly similar. The 1100 has a completely different (much wider front tank mounts and much longer tank) frame though. The front mounts (where the tank slides over the dampers) on the 650/750 are 4.5 inches wide, the 1100 is much wider closer to 8 inches wide. The 650/750 tank is 23 inches long (measuring underneath very straight) from rear mount to the front of the tank, the 1100 is also much longer at 27 from rear mount to front. The fuel valves are different too, the 650/750 has one valve, the 1100 has two valves, one on each side. Hope this all helps!.

If all works out like I hope there should be 2 pics attached. the black one is off my 1100, and the primed one is the 650 tank. The badges have been smoothed over and the 650 tank is ready for paint. If your interested in buying the 650 tank let me know I was planning on selling it on here anyways.
    Good luck!
    -Dana

I'd also be interested in seeing what larger capacity tanks fit the smaller bikes please :)
    I have a XJ700Maxim X which I take it has a similar or the same tank as a 6/750????

    Cheers .. Ric 8)

Babylon - nope, you're out of luck I'm afraid. The only way to make another tank fit your bike is to modify it yourself -- and to date, I think I've only ever seen one. The 85/86 700/750 X/non-X bikes have a distinctive tank just for them.

assassin is ours a stock 650 tank? My 650 gets more than 100 miles to a tank. Not much but some. I usually fill up around the 130 mark and haven't been on reserve yet. I've been rught around the 40mpg mark. As was mentioned a 750 tank fits and is a bit bigger.

Only really two ways to go if not longer. Wider or taller to get more volume.

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing somebody around here with Fatboy tanks sometime... Not sure exactly how it worked...

T0MCAT has a couple pictures of his (heavily customized) xj with Fatboy tanks in his gallery.
