USD forks on a Seca 650

    Anyone swap 'em here? I like the idea, and I am going to swap some '02 YZ forks onto my TT500 for the discs and the stiffer front end. I would love to upgrade the Seca, as well.

    why would the yz forks be any stiffer ?

    The upside down forks have the larger diameter (outside) part of the telescoping fork on top, and they resist flex much better that the smaller diameter inside section. Basically, the forks don't deflect like the older, standard style forks. I could go to a larger diameter set of forks, but I would rather go all the way and use a later model front end for the better brakes and adjustability.

    Upside down fork on their own may not make that much difference, if you don't spring and valve them for the different bike, it is quite possible they could be worse that what you already have (worst case scenario)

    Yeah, I know that.

    Considering the time and effort it usually takes to swap them, (swapping stems, milling, etc.) the valving is cake. I still would need to do this on my Seca, so why not do it with a better set of forks with more adjustability and better factory and aftermarket support?

    But none of that answers my original question. :wink:

    ok, i see your wanting to swap the whole front end, stem, trees and all
    many moons ago i had a tt500, i remember the front brake getting used a lot
    and a lot of steering done with the throttle :)

    I'm swapping a 93 katana front end onto my 81 seca 750. All I'm having to do really is swap the stem from my stock triples into the katana's triples, and it essientally bolts in like normal.

    Hey Cooter, I've done a couple of front end swaps. Not on an XJ but my suzukis. I've put a GSXR-750 front end on a GS 450, that was easy, bolted on in half hour. An 02 GSXR front on a GS 500, this was followed by a 92 GSXR 600 swing arm and 4.5" rear wheel. This year I put an 07 GSXR 750 front on an other 500.
    The biggest problems I had was that the 500 neck is a little shorter than the 450 and the doner bikes. I made a cup that force fit in the top bearing cup to take up the difference.
    A problem I see is wheel size. Front verses the back. And If you use the stock 650 wheel you'll encounter spacing and bearing size problems.

    Thanks for the insight. The tire size issue was one I hadn't thought of. I can only go so wide in the rear, due to the driveshaft configuration.

    Beautiful bikes, BTW.
