Ok so tonight I ripped all the carbs apart....

Not as hard as it looks.....

after lubin' everything with silicon grease and putting it back togeather #2 doesn't line up with the bottom braket

    ( 1mm to 1 1/2mm's out )

...all the carbs are in alignment it's just not inline with the braket....

Is that going to be a problem?

I'm pretty sure my idle problems are going to be a thing of the past! As everything seems to move alot smoother and there is no binding or tension on the butterflies/throttleshafts anymore....

on a side note seems weird that my main jets are #114......

    with pilot #43

Loosen all the fasteners to where you will be able to cause alignment changes by tapping on the Carb Body with a Rubber Mallet, Plastic Hammer, Screwdriver Handle or Hardwood Dowel.

Place the Bodies on the side of a Level and make corrections to the alignment by tapping on the Bodies and bringing them into perfect alignment.

Start all the screws and tap everything around until you have the perfect fit.

    but they are perfect....

just doesn't line up with the holes......

    might drill out the holes....

    EDIT.....

I forced it to lineup..... we'll see how it works tomorrow....

    OMG!!!!!

Ok so it hasn't fixed anything....

    In fact it's worse now...

if dial in the idle adjustment screw even a little bit and open the throttle the rev's stay up at like 3,000rpm.... until i dial the idle adjustment back down.... then she won't idle without help from the throttle.....

I've checked for air leaks and can't seem to find any. spraying around the manifoldboots, throttle shafts, intake boots... doesn't change the rpm's

It seems like it's a throttle shaft seal problem....

    this is getting frustrating....

    what is the problem?

Re: Carb brake down alingment question....

    Sure......

    The day I bought it!

The PO told me he couldn't get it to idle at stop lights without using throttle... and if he used the idle adjust the rpms would race....

she rides fine .... I think the problem has to be with # 3.....

( # 3 has blue pipes which means it was lean which means it's getting too much air.... )

I've pulled the plugs though and they look fine....

there is a high presure leak somewhere that i can't find.....

Did you polish the slide bores? A sticky diaphram piston will make you crazy.

They all clunk down nicely and the bores shine line the top of the chysler building.

I think my next step might be to pull the intake boots off the head and form a gasket seal them....

And but new air box boots.....

    Any other suggestions?

Bench sync? If you did what method did you use?

You need 120 Main jets, but that doesn't affect your idle.
You still have some junk in the Pilot circuits? Maybe?
    Your float levels are low?
New rubber "O" rings on Pilots, missing washers?
Leaky boots? (just some ideas for ya)

i'll second the pilot circuit, when you turn up the idle all 4 start firing and the idle takes off, when you back it off one or more cut out and the rest can't keep it running
if the sync's right the pilot screws are wrong or the pilot screws are right and the sync's off
the right jets will help too

Re: Carb brake down alingment question.... PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

So it has to be a jetting problem!!!!!

4 turns out on the pilot screws makes her pur like a kitten at idol!!!!

    with 114 mains

    and 43 pilots

Aprently i'm going to need to re-jet her...

Why would 4 turns out fix this problem?????

    Something's still a bit wanky with your PO;
you're supposed to have 120 MAINS and 40 PILOT or idle jets.
You should theoretically have a lean0out problem at high speeds
unless your PO secretly drilled them to the correct size,
so, if it's rideable, watch your plugs for a lean condition.
    Chacal has the correct jets.

    Well it's 4 into 1 exhaust.....

I'm thinking the jets need to be more like

    122 maybe 123
    44 maybe 45
