How many miles are you guys commuting. I lost my job in May in which my round trip commute was only 34 miles. Now I am starting a job on Monday in which I will be commuting about 112 miles per day. That's a long time in the saddle. How are you guys coping? An hour is a long ride for me. Plus I will be going from the far west side of Cleveland to the far east side of Cleveland which means lots of heavy traffic no matter which way I go. I'm not looking forward to the commute but it was tough to find a job.

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
when i ride from north of port huron (on lake huron at the mouth of the st clair river) to JUST far enough into detroit to pay detroit city income tax(!) its 55 miles. so i have 110 round trip, or about the same as you...

i however go in at 4am which makes it kind of nippy in the early and later part of the season. coming home it can get down right hot but as long as im moving i can deal with it...

i dont have much traffic going in so thats nice but i dont care to ride in such total darkness. coming home i have more traffic while in the city but it thins out well as i get closer home...

im almost ENTIRELY on the interstate (i-94 and i-696) so that helps with the time in the saddle issue....

Will you have to take I-90 to work?

My commute is 25 miles each way. I've only done it once on the bike. It's I-95 between DC and Baltimore. Plus the fiance and I work for the same company and she doesn't ride.

    mestnii,
    Yes I will take I-90.

    iwin,

25 miles each way sounds like a perfect ride to me. Won't your fiance ride on the back?

Like LtDave, mine's in and out of Detroit proper although a bit more completely into the city. I ride from out in the stix 58 miles one way and often have to vary my homeward route so it's about 120 miles usually. Time-wise about an hour and a half each way, and my XJs are quite comfortable so I don't mind it a bit. I get a mix of 2-lane rural road, interstate and surface streets. The Detroit rush-hour can be a bit challenging at times, but it's nowhere as insane as say, Chicago or Boston.
I ride as often as feasible, the job sometimes demands I drive the cage.

Ok, that's the encouragement I need. I will give it a try. Monday I will have to take the car because I need to haul my tools. From then on I will try the bike.

yah i have to agree...an hour on the saddle is long enough, then i need to stretch. i commute from school and back (only on occasional weekends to visit the parents) and the 80 mile one way is a good drive.

I ride about 54 miles one way. I'm in SD so a mile goes by pretty quick. I ride state roads and county roads. It takes less than an hour to ride. I work nights so it can be nippy at times in the am.

While I mostly ride the XS's into work, Last couple days I rode the 550 Maxim. My run in is 25 miles or so. Motorcycles get take the High Occupancy Vehicle lane on I-10 at 60-65mph. I run it 16mi so I dont have to deal with all the cages. The rest is like city driving on 2 & 4 lane. Temps in the 70's for the morning have made it nice riding in. Even better in the mid 80's driving home. Got the pleasure of riding all this week, no rain!

No. She won't have any part of that. Plus the 650 is a bit small for the two of us. It suits just me pretty good though.

I commute 14 miles each way, mostly over backroads. My 650 handles the wife and I quite nicely, and performed handsomely on a recent 1000+ mile road trip. (Wifey stayed home, but the pillon was packed full of camping gear)

I travel about 10 miles each way through the backroads to get to work. On nice days I wish it was longer!

Around 3 miles round trip. My old job was 40 miles but they went under.

50 miles Round Trip Monday-Friday, all 60-70mph. Little traffic. No Windsheild on my scoot.

Work your way into comfort with those extra miles. Dont rush into them. Comfort can help you stay alert and sharp on those mornings

Mirco, what shift are you working? My daily commute is 28mi one way. From the burbs to down town Y-Tuckey. Mostly highway but I work midnights so the traffic isn't bad coming or going.
I used to drive up to Chagrin every day. That was a long ass daily ritual but it was mostly secondary roads so the traffic, again wasn't horrible.
Install a windscreen if you haven't yet. It'll pay for it's self in one trip!

My ride is 36 miles round trip about 30 minutes each way.
Mixed four lane and secondary roads.
I work 10pm to 8am, so at night once I'm past where the cop sits, I'm a flyin' on the four lane.
In the morning traffic goes the other way.
    I ride just about everyday.
People complained earlier this summer about the rain and no riding. :D
It rains in the afternoon so it didn't stop me a day yet.
My longest stretch without driving the cage this summer was 8 days.
I had to take my daughter and her friends  someplace or I would have gone longer.
