Newbie question about Pods

    I bought my bike about 1 month ago, and it had pods when I bought it. I am not that mechanically inclined, and have seen some people saying that with pods, it may take some work to get it to run correctly. My question is: How do I know if the PO adjusted it correctly? The thing pretty much runs great and I do not have any issues, but I am not sure what I should look for.

    Any help would be appreciated. I do not have alot of tools, so if I need to take it in to a shop to have it looked at I can. The PO only had it for the summer, and has no contact with the PO before, so I have no idea how long they have been on there, or what was done when they were put on.

    you should be able to take it by a shop and they should be able to run it around the block and tell you if your not running right.

    On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
    I would just do a couple plug chops to check the mixture at midrange and at idle.
    the only thing a shop has that you dont is a tool to read your air/fuel ratio at the exhaust.

    run a couple plug chops when it is fully warmed up and you will be able to tell if it set within reason.

    Get the bike running at speed, 4k, 6k, 8k rpm and then hit the kill switch and coast to a stop. Pull the plugs and see what they look like. If you shut it down at a certain rpm and check the spark plugs you will know how the engine is doing at that rpm.

    a good way to start is take the plugs out now before your next ride, you want the center ceramic part to be the color of a small coffee with one cream, if it's more like chocolate milk thats a little rich but ok if its more like a vanilla milkshake thats lean and should be corrected soon

    That's a great method Polock! I just hope they don't come out looking like the coffee I found in my mug at work after a long weekend....

    Before messing around with the fine tune, you should start at the beginning. . .
    Read the tech threads about:
    adjusting valve lash to spec,
    do a running sync.
    Then write down the exact amount your Pilot screws are turned (so you don't get lost). Run each screw in until lightly seated, counting the turns, and fractions of a turn. Now you can experiment all you want and still return to your starting point.
