I believe max is 17psi. Try using bicycle pump. You may lose a little pressure when using a gauge to check.

It should be around get-a-manual psi.

:) Just kidding, kind of. But you should get one. Definitely.

My manual says 5.7PSI standard, maximum of 36PSI... If I'm reading that right. That seems like a big gap. It also says 5.7-17PSI range. I don't get it, but that's what it says.

    Anyone else?

    Thanks for the replies.
Just bought the bike dont have the manual yet.
17 psi feels too soft, could I go a little more?

No! You risk blowing out the lower tube oil seals, and then you'll have a real mess to deal with........

Make sure you have enough fork oil (which should be changed if you just bought the bike, unless you know, for sure, that fresh oil is in there).

Other than that, it may be time to change those 25 year old springs.....

If your forks feel soft at 17PSI then perhaps it's time for an oil change or maybe even a spring replacement.

Personally I don't put any air in my forks but then I do have new progressive fork springs with a 1 inch preloader and 20w fork oil.

Do you know the history of the forks, oil and springs?

The guy I bought it from put new seals in it.
Maybe I need to add oil?
If so, How do I check it and how much oil, and what kind of oil?

This is where a manual comes in handy... I don't have one on hand so cannot answer right now. :)

    Thanks.
I am in the process of getting a manual.
I have had the bike for 5 days.
    Bike seems to run great.
    Just a soft front end.

I suggest you spend a few bucks and replace the springs then.... Made a huge difference to my front end and if the seals have been replaced then you won't need to pull the whole forks apart, just pull the tops off, change the springs and oil... Easy job and well worth it.

If your Front End is excessively diving-down on you ... adding 17 psi to the Forks isn't going to change anything. It's just going to add a very slight pressure to the top of the Fork Oil, ... keeping the Oil Level "Quiet" instead of splashing around.

17 PSI (max) ... is less pressure than you apply to a balloon to inflate it.
It's barely over Atmosphere at Sea Level.

If you are diving and want to do something about it:
Replace the Fork Springs if they are over 3 years old.
    Use a Progressively wound Spring.
Change the Fork Fluid to a heavier viscosity.
Use Hydraulic Jack Oil if you are a XXL or XXXL Guy.
    Pre-Load the Spring.**

**Consult the Manufacturer about Max Spring Load to avoid having the Spring coils crash together.

I dont know about dive, but I know there should be a little firmness involved.
My front end will bottom out and get shakes.
I can sit on my bike and the front forks sink down significantly.
