Can you guy's tell me why there are problems with the 1985 xj 700, 700x 2nd gear going out? Do they have a glass jaw or is it something that can be prevented? The 85 V-max had the same trouble. Is it the first new model year curse?

awww Todd!!!!! thats why I dont like my 700!! 700 and 1100 engines are terrible for that, mine kicks out at 4K rpms. you gotta split the cases.

to fix it, mi carl quoted me at like 500 if i brought the engine to him.

say, i'll be more than happy this summer to bring my engine to your house and we cant partner it up and do both ours.

I cant really explain whats goin on, but i think its cuz yamaha made these engines with a spacer in the wrong spot, making it wear wrong for 2nd gear. but i dont think parts are expensive, youll have more in gaskets and whatnot.

On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
mine never slips out, but occasionally on a downshift from 2-1, it wont shift even though I moved the lever.
I just wrote it off a problem the PO caused

Mine is really finicky on this issue. If I play with the clutch cable adjustment long enough, I can get it to shift fine for a few thousand miles, then the problem comes back. What usually happens is I get really rough shifts going up to 2nd and down shifting to 1st.

    I still enjoy my ride!
