Hi everyone. Just picked up my 82 Maxim 550 last week. The bike only has 12,000 miles on it with recently rebuilt carbs, new-ish chrome, and a new back tire. Picked it up for $1000. This is my first bike. I've just been riding it for that short amount of time, but I'm loving it. I bought it to ride back and forth to class and it has already saved me $40 this past week (I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner).

    wow, nice bike.

ya some mothers on the chrome, and maybe some steel wool if its rusty, tho i cant tell. and if you're using steel wool, coat that spot in a nice layer of wd40 or diesel fuel, rinse it off, and layer it again.

hmm, lesse, if thats the stock front tire, id change it, though it doesnt rally look like it.
    check the valve clearences too
and check the rear brakes for delamination.

gosh, if I keep sayin stuff like that then Fitz will only have half as much work to do.

Welcome. Great buy. Take a riders safety course since it's you first bike and practice the drills. It might safe your butt someday. Enjoy the bike, and if your like most of us the "savings" from riding the bike just gets put back into restoring/modifying them. Ride safe and enjoy.
