Hi folks, I'm new to this forum (but I was thrilled to find it).
I was curious if anyone knows whether the intake manifold boots from a 1982 XJ 750 will fit on a 1985 Xj 700? These one year bikes are really tough to find parts for and my boot on the #2 lost a big chunk on my last carb cleaning, so short of filling it with caulk I need to replace it. I can't seem to find them anywhere but I found the 82 750 boot on ebay...

I'm pretty sure that they won't fit. Have you looked at chacal's list of parts? I'm not sure if he has any but he might. Is this for an airbox to carb boot or, a carb to head boot? If it is for the airbox to carb there is a link on this forum to a part at Lowes hardware store that will work, it's a plumbing fitting. Do a search for Lowes I'm sure that you'll find it.

    Cheers
    Ken

    Hi all,
thanks for replying. It is the Carb to head boot, and I already tried to buy the 700 part but lost the auction (and it went really high; over $100) which was more than I was prepared to pay. I then found an auctin for 750 intake boots with a relatively low "buy it now" option. So I bought those. I did look at Chacals parts list here but I saw the boots for 550, 650 and 750's but nothing on the boots for the 700. My guess is that since the 700 and 750 have the same carbs, the boots will be interchangeable, the only issue is whether or not the larger engine size will make the boots curve out wider. Hopefully they won't .

I think you'll find that they won't work very well, at all.......... :(

did you contact the store that I gave you the link for?
their prices are fairly good, so you might be able to swoop them up

Hi all thanks for the advice, it turns out the 750 boots fit the 700 perfectly and I now have a running bike! The 1 year only 700 is really difficult to find parts for so the more we can find that are interchangeable the better!
