Hey everyone. First things first. This site is great. Tons of useful info and what seems to be a great group of people. I was able to pick up an 83 XJ750 Maxim from craigslist pretty cheap. It was in bad cosmetic shape but the engine was strong. Broken headlight, taillight, bad cdi, dead battery, rusty chrome etc. I have always liked xj's and never had one so i figured what the heck. I took it and created a franken-maxim with whatever parts i could get. New handlebars, new fairing, goldwing taillight, venture headlight, xj600 seca gauges. Needless to say it's an industrial post apocalypse. It runs extremely well and strong and is a blast to ride. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. here are some before and after pics.

Actually, looks pretty cool. I like the black out effect on the side panels. Is that easy to do?

I really like the look, I should do something like that with my Maxim, when I get the time.

I changed my original handlebars like you did, but the angle of the mirror mounts rendered my mirrors almost useless. I need to come up with a solution next time I am home.

But it looks sharp and fun to ride, good job

yeah the mirror placement is off now with the new handlebars. haven't decided if i want to order extenders or new mirrors to mount to the fairing. everything was really inexpensive but time consuming. the side panels were taken off, sanded, painted, and the maxim letters were sanded back down to the grey plastic. really easy. i keep looking for other xj's in western new york, haven't seen any yet. another little quirk. maybe someone can answer this. the gauges are from a 92 seca. the tachometer when idling reads double. when i apply the throttle, it actually dips down to a true reading first before coming up with the throttle. it is accurate when on the throttle but double at idle? any ideas?

Chacal has an adapter to return the mirrors to the proper position, I'm told.
