Anybody come up with a good alternative for replacement (other than OEM) fan switch (temp sensor). They are $70.00 on bike bandit. The other option I know would be to put a manual fan switch on it.

    Thanks

    couple of options.

You could run the hot wire from the fan to a hot wire in harness

You could run a toggle and wire to the battery to the switch

You could get a replacement switch off of ebay or someone here...

Did you check with our local parts wizard Chacal. He lists cooling as being section G in his catalogue. That section didn't exist in the post. Try emailing him at info @xj4ever .com (no spaces)

Does your existing one work or simply want to add a manual switch?
It's normal for the X to get pretty close to the red mark before it comes on.

If you look at the thermostat housing, the sensor with two wires is the temp switch for the fan. If you cross those two wires with the key on, the fan should spin. THUS, is you leave the wires hooked to that switch and wire an auxilary toggle switch to those two wires you should have manual fan control as long as the rest of your wiring is functioning.

I suggest you leave the OEM switch in and wire a toggle switch in parallel. That way, if you don't notice the temp, the OEM switch should turn the fan on AND if you forget and leave the switch on, the key will turn the fan off and you won't return to a dead battery.

OH, and I'm sure I have a spare in the parts pile somewhere for less than $70

Yeah, I have jumped the switch before so it ran constantly after the last when went out. I am wanting to keep the bike stock and all things functioning properly, not wanting to do any mods to it. I did pull the last one out of ebay. I have owned this bike for a number of years, its all original and in great shape, would like to keep it that way.

Watch ebay. I had the same problem and picked up a complete thermostat housing that had the switch in it for a decent price.

    Or Mike's Maxim X parts house... 8O
