Is it easier to just bench sync my carbs and leave it since it has the internal YICS ports or use my carbtune and sync them?

I forgot to mention it's for a XS400 twin, the YICS ports are built in to the intake side of the head. As far as I know there is no tool available to block this setup.

I was going to suggest the "stuff it with an oily rag" trick.

Then I looked in the XS400 manual. ('82 DOHC model like yours.)

The bolt on the right side of the head that LOOKS like it could be a YICS plug is NOT. It is, in fact, an oil gallery plug that is supposed to be loosened immediately after an oil change. You loosen the bolt and start the motor until oil issues forth, and then tighten it back up.

There is apparently no way to block the YICS. The book just has you use a pair of gauges and sync away.

I have a 79MB ".pdf" of the International (Eng, French, German) version of the factory manual. PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you if you'd like.

I don't think the seal next to the washer is really needed. The port would be blocked by the rubber hose. There is nothing going through the area between the first rubber and the wing nut.

I just inspected the cylinder. The first port that is plugged (blocked off) by the rubber hose is approx 3/4 in. this means that it there is solid metal from where the rubber seals to the end where the wing nut is. (first rubber is 7/16" from washer with wing nut) It is a good idea to put a rubber washer on the end to keep from marring the bolt gasket, it would have no effect on the sync'ing of the carbs.

I am not saying don't put the seal on, I was just stating that it shouldn't have an effect one way or the other.

Guys...hello... You can't block off the YICS on a 400 I just looked it up.

And yes, on the 4-cylinder bikes the tool helps and yes you need the seal at the very end, honest.

But this post was in regard to a 400 twin.
