Wich solo seat looks the best on the XJ with a Harley fender

Im having a little trouble try'in to decide on a solo seat for my bobber project, seams that the Harley bob rear fender look appeals to me a little more than the ridgit look does.

The frame section that meat the tank erea is kind square and is 9 1/2 inches wide, and the bottom of the tank on thiese bikes is 7 1/2 inshes wide.

I dont want to go with a solo seat that has a narrow tip in the front, if a bunch of the frame is gonna show, and not look right for the project.

Yeah seats are not cheap, because i've sean one in the dealership catalog fore up to a grand 8O

The look im go'in for, for my 1980 XJ650, would be one with Ape hanger bars, Harley Bob back fender, solo seat, and maybe a shorter set of shocks.

Without seeing any pictures of what you have, it sounds like you may have to locate a seat with the proper width up front, then get the knife and saw out and modify it to suit your fit.

 

I have a solo seat im trying to sell off a vstar. I havent put it on an xj to see how it sits, but Im sure with a little work you could fab some mounting brackets. Its a big solo seat, much bigger than it looks in the photo. My post is in the buy sell trade forum, if your interested ill have my buddy bring it over tomorrow and well see how easy it will be to mount on an xj.

 

Cool, im just throw'in ideas around a bit, yeah i got one for $10 about a month ago, got it home, sat it on the frame and said NOPE it aint gonna work, so i diched it. Cant even tell ya what it was off of, but it was to thick, and to wide for what i was looking for. I guess im wanting a seat to kinda blend with the tank, and look good on the bike.

Thats looks good bro. This one is more of a bucket style. Id throw it on mine but I plan on replacing the tank with a smaller one and that might look a little off with a sofa sitting behind a peanut. ha. Plus I really like the looks of tan leather springers on bobbers. Heres a pick of the one im selling. At this point ill just take the first reasonable offer I get. I'd imaging these could sell upwards of 120 together, but they will do nothing other than sit and I know they can be put to get use.

Im putting a seat from a 2000 Vstar on my '80 xj650 maxim. Had to do a little cutting on the bucket with a dremel tool, but its fitting nicely. The picture below is before I got it completely done. I had to cut part of the pan out but it didnt seem to weaken it any...holds my big butt well.

Well...gee. Thanks! I dont think Im using the fender as it was meant to be used, but I like the way it looks like that.

Is that a Bones seats? Be nice to see some pics of how you mounted it, so i could have some ides if i dont try and make one from scretch.

 

Ill get it some pics of it when my sis brings my camera back. But i think if you set it on the frame with the tank on, it will become obvious what needs cut away.

 

I used the seat off an 08 nightster it fitt my bike awsome.
