Well it's getting to be that time of the year in the northern hemisphere when we exchange our gasoline dollars for "Chacal dollars". What's on your list of things to tackle this winter? Mine are as follows and not in any particular order.

    Spin on oil filter
    Stainless steel brake lines
    Head bearings
    Mounting my 4th brake light
    Polishing the clutch cover
    re-pack/re-chrome my mufflers

Probably 3-4 other things that will keep me busy this winter

Rob, if you find a chrome shop that will touch used exhaust parts, be sure to let us know.

    Valve adjustment
    Carb Synch
    New plugs/wires
    extra fog lights
    extra "stupid bright" brake light

And I may finally figure out how to use my reverse gear! :D

My bike has been sitting not used for about 6 years, so I'm sure I will find other issues. Chacal, are you ready for the orders?

I know the problem is contamination, so, why can't they plug the pipe and re-chrome it that way ?? Leave the tube inside dry.

My winter project will be my 750 Maxim- - start to finish.

Dustin, I think I have found the extra "stupid bright" brake light you are refering to. I have not mounted it yet but it's a Whelen Tir3. The same little light you'll find on emergency vehicles. The guys on the ADVRider forum call it the "death ray".

Here is a video of them mounted on a truck - they are the little ones near the top of the box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsYI-c7Gx0M
Another with them mounted near the license plate on this limo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_JIN28BGd8

Fitz, regarding the mufflers here is my plan. Since the baffles on mine are pretty much shot I plan to cut out the existing ones. Once they are out I should be able to get the mufflers spotless on the inside at which point I wouldn't think there would be a problem finding someone to chrome them.

Rob, thank you! Thats exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking about using an LED tail light, but now my eyeballs are burning. That should be just right! :D

Chop it up. As much as possible.

I have a whole bunch of parts already off the bike (fenders, mirrors, grab rails) and that will be supplemented by taking the exhaust off as well as just about anything else that I think is not completely necessary for it to run.

Naked soft tail in the works!

In reality, none of this will likely get done until spring, but.....

    New grips
    New front brake master cylinder
install cig lighter jack, to plug in my stuff
    New plugs
Upgrade to 750 tank, as soon as I can afford it
    Check & adjust cam chain

i hope that someday (maybe even this winter) my bike will make noises of its own while i am NOT holding down the starter button. What that will take, I cannot venture to list.

I have to add a tractor seat to my list. I found a big antique steel tractor seat on my honeymoon in Stuart, VA. I'll get pictures in the next couple days.
