One of my tank emblems sticky back tape was coming loose so I peeled the emblem off. I was just going to order another one until I found out how much they cost ($48), ouch! There's nothing wrong with my emblem other than the sticky back tape has lost it's adhesion. Has anyone found some black double sticky back tape to reattach their emblem? Any ideas?

I haven't actually looked for any, as my bike has no emblems and i won't be putting them on. But if I were to guess, 3M probably makes something you would want to use. I've used 3M products to adhere emblems on other things (and one of my cars) before. Worked perfectly.

As you don't need a lot of the tape it may be cheaper to go to your local body shop and see if they will sell or give you a piece to hold the emblem. It is used to hold badges, moldings and trim on cars.

You can buy black double sided rubberized tape at an auto parts store. It is used for applications like side trim molding on cars. Very tough - make sure the emblem is where you want it before touching the tank. It won't move after that.

I agree with JFStewart. I run an autobody repair shop and i would donate a little double sided tape to a fellow biker if he came in and asked for some help. Remember to clean the area with something like alcohol (not the drinking kind) before applying, also use a little tape on the tank to use as a guide for placement. If cold weather you can also use a hair dryer to warm it up to allow the adhesive to grip.

You can buy 3M autobody trim molding tape in small rolls at any auto parts for about $5. It's identical to (ok, maybe even better than) the stuff that was originally used.

I've used it successfully to reattach badges on my Secas, and cole9900 is right: make sure it's where you want it before you stick it down because it's not moving.

What I do is lay out a masking tape "guide" on the part to position the emblem before applying the adhesive tape.
